Public transport in Hamburg

Hi everybody,

I am going to Hamburg for three months (Oct-Dec 2007) to study at the Hamburg University on a scholarship. However, I have a very small baby (1 year) and have to take her along as well as my husband to take care of her when I would be attending my classes. My scholarship would just cover our stay and minimum expenses. So I am looking for information on travel cards/tickets available at cheap rates (to cover all kinds of transport, if possible for the entire three months, or may be something monthly) for me and my husband. I hope my daughter does not need that. I guess I'll get some discounted rate with the University ID card. I have searched some websites of travel companies but all are in German!!! So, please tell me something specific.

Within Hamburg, you'll use the HVV public transport system.

I think I said to you in a previous post to use the monthly CC-Karte from them. You get to travel within your 3 selected zones.

Only restriction, you can only use it Mon-Fri between 9am and 4pm, and 6pm til end of day. But you can use it all weekend. You can take up to 3 children, 14 years and under, on this card.

This costs €30 per month and you can use all buses and trains within the zones you choose. Otherwise you can get the non-restrictive card here.

oh.. and the non-restrictive monthly price for a 3 zone ticket is €73.

Big difference from €30..

€30?? My god that's cheap! Compare that to London prices and weep!

even better ... together with your University ID card you´ll automatically receice a "free" (€ 135.00 - provided the tuition fee is paid) SemesterTicket for the duration of your stay ... valid for the entire HVV network

SemesterTicket
