Hey all. Thanks for taking the time to read/respond to my post. I am new to Munich (few weeks now) and speak no German - though I'm slowly picking a few things up. In any case, I am concerned that I will not be able to find a good spot where my associates and I will be able to meet up and watch NFL games once the season starts up. I plan to be here through the season, and any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

There are two places that I know of that will show US sports...

The Arc... They will show almost any game that is on... Within the realms of possibility..
The Sport Bar at The Marriot hotel... Champions Bar, I believe its called..

You can watch online for free with P2P software. First you need to download the sopcast player from sopcast.com. When you want to watch a game, go over to myp2p.eu to find out the channel number (It probably won't be listed on the sopcast player channel listing.) You can actually link to the game directly from myp2p.eu. Just click the link and it will automatically open your player and connect with the correct station.

This works great for almost every sport. e.g. they have almost all the mlb games.

I may be moving to Munich later this summer for a work assignment, and am wondering the same thing. Does anyone know, is it possible to subscribe to DirecTV in Germany and order the NFL Sunday Ticket package? Thanks!

No Direct TV here...but you can subscribe to NASN (nasn.de) through your local cable/Sat provider. They show 5-6 games a week, including MNF, the Sunday Night game and 2 games on Sunday afternoon. I recommend what i do to watch my favorite team. I have a contact in the USA who has a SLING player that slings the Direct TV signal to me 24 hours a day. It doesn't cost me a dime, except of course buying the player and having them install it. It has to be a really good reliable contact though, as it needs to be updated and rebooted once in a while. I don't recommend the TVU/SOP P2P stuff as it isn't very reliable and the signal can be weak.

Get a buddy to install a Slingbox on his DirectTV. We have one on our friends Dish system. We are able to watch & program remotely. The quality isn't great, but you can't beat the convenience of watching 24, Lost, or Leno in the current season. It works out nicely with the time zone change. We are usually watching when they are at work.

Welcome to Munich.

what happens when the person whose satellite you are watching wants to watch something other than you?

It's duel band...it is set up like a TIVO, where they can record a show while you are watching football. You can also buy two slings and then watch different shows at the same time, but thank god he is also a big football fan.

Greetings all...I have seen The Arc mentioned as a good spot to catch an NFL game, would you also recommend this as the place in Munich to catch a College Football Game? I'm trying to catch the Penn State vs Michigan game on Sept 22nd...either live or tape delayed another date.

Thanks for the help, this is a great site!

The Slingbox is the best invention since the telephone...well and beer. The quality for me is great but I guess it depends on the sources upstream. I am getting 700k and can pipe the picture to my tv. When you sit 5 feet or more back the picture looks almost normal, the only time I really notice is with the field being a flat blurred green but otherwise... awesome. Didn't miss a Bears game last year and already watched their first pre-season game against the Texans on Saturday

Go Bears!

I'm sure Keith from The Arc will be along shortly to explain what he can show and when, but I've watched college football at the Arc in the past; we were there last year to watch the Buckeyes trounce Michigan.

Thank you 'XabiAlonso'! I look forward to checking out the Arc, and hopefully my Lions will have the same result as your Buckeyes last year vs those Wolverines

Who will be showing NFL games this year, particularly the opening Sunday? I noticed that The Arc will be showing the rugby world cup all day on the first day of the regular season, Sunday, September 9, or at least through rugby games beginning at 20:00 (NFL games will begin here at 19:00). Outland focusing on rugby as well? Anyone ever watched games at Champions?

I'm hearing crickets on this thread from The Arc and any other establishment who could help us (I guess again because of the focus on the Rugby World Cup at The Arc and other expat bars), but if by any chance anyplace could turn on AFNxtra of the Armed Forces Network (I know The Arc, at least, has AFN) on at 19:00 (or even an hour or so later) this Sunday 9 September to show the Philadelphia Eagles-Green Bay Packers NFL season opener I'd be very grateful and definitely spend a decent amount of money there on drinks and food, and, in reference to another recent topic alleging expats don't tip, I for one do, and would do so generously in this case.

And if AFN isn't available but somebody has NASN, I'd probably even stop by to watch whatever else is on the NFL menu. But unfortunately for the folks looking for the Steelers game, in looking at the schedule on AFN and NASN (North American Sports Network)'s websites, the Steelers-Cleveland game isn't among those being shown Sunday.
