On Saturday, June 30th, Hairy Mary's is having an World Beer Tour night, so I was figuring on celebrating into Canada day there.
We could also organise a bbq in Mauer park on Sunday afternoon, weather permiting.

I suggested to the road hockey discussion that we have a friendly game in the arvo before some bbq get-to-gether thing.
I have no idea on locations, apparently I live out in the sticks anyways near Olympiastadion and Grunewald - have bike, will travel. As long as I can find it on my Michelin Map, I'm good.
As for time, I'd suggest sometime in the afternoon, that way:
- Globalgirl can recover from her hangover from the World Beer night
- I can recover from the Daft Punk concert and finish moving apartments
- the flea market people can join up
- we can have our road hockey game for an hour or so beforehand
Let's do this.

Shall we say the corner of the park in front of
The Bird at 4pm. (if someone knows the name of the street the bird is on...) That way we have an easy-ish landmark.

Am Falkplatz is where

Who's got a portable bbq? (if we could get a couple people to bring one, so that we know we'll have at least one in the end, and enough space to cook)
As far as food and drink, I think we should stick to bring your own with sharing in mind is easiest.
Badmington rackets/ frisbees/ hacky sacs. and something to sit on (blanket/ coat/ grass..)

Just bought my stick on Ebay and should be ready to play on Sunday. Are we sure there is nothing big going on at the stadium on Sunday...just to be sure that open space isn't covered with cars.
Please let me know what else I can bring...maybe Nanaimo bars or some chicken wings for the BBQ?
Is this now a definite thing? 4pm in front of the bird?

4pm in the park in front of the Bird. it's a week away, very advanced planning in my book, but I've mentioned it to a few people on and outside of Toytown and seems a few people are sure to come along.

Did we ever find a portable grill? (not that I have one - just curious)

Ok so at this point - no grill.
What if we change plans and have Burgers and Beers at the Bird and "play" in the park whatever stuff we choose to bring?

good idea, Rose. I find grilling kind of a pain in the ass and usually defer to others. There are lots of places to get food/drink in mauerpark near the flea market area.

OK...now I am a bit confused. Where is Mauerpark? Is that near the Olympia Stadium? We are still talking about meeting under the bird at the main entrance to Olympia Stadium, right?
If I am wrong (as I way to often am) then just let me know what I messed up.
Gotta run...Atomic Betty is on!

There's a bar called "The Bird" on Am Falkplatz. The gathering will take place around 4pm in the park nearest that bar, (the North East corner of the park, nearest U-Bahn Shoenhauser Allee U2), or in the bar itself if it decides to rain (first person there lets the bar know they're with Toytown so that new people can ask where you are)
sounds like some people are getting food before since there's no one with a grill (from 3 to 6€, for disposable or non- Conny's Containers has the cheapest I've found) There's also the picknick, cold-ish food option too.
Mostly it's going to be hanging out in the park with drinks and meeting new people with the excuse being Canada Day.
Don't forget to also come along to Hairy Mary's (Diedenhofer Str 5, U-Bahn Senefelder Pltz) on Saturday night to help me celebrate into Canada Day since it seems like I'll be working and thus missing the BBQ.

I remembered to bring my hand-held Canadian flag home from the office. Unfortunately my backpack fell off the table and broke the flagpole when my back was turned, so it's a little shorter than it was.

just wanted to say i'm still in. I might show up a bit later, though... (just like vincecanada i'll be playing softball. but my match only starts at 2p. are you playing for the borg or the pirhanas, vince?)
what's the current state regarding the road hockey game?

We should grill a moose. Can someone pick one up?

Jun 30 2007, 6:28 am
It's actually grilled "Beef-alo" (buffalo- cow) that we'd have on the BBQ at home... But if we're at a park picknick I have to admit that my familly likes to take the bucket of KFC route.

Hey, my game is at 11, I'm on the borg team, just joined up a few weeks ago. I'll be absolutely knackered by the time I get there...I'm skipping my Saturday game in the other league because I'm moving apts and going to Daft Punk tonight.
So I guess the thing is, if you bring food, don't bring stuff that needs to be cooked?
phoenix-rose
Jul 1 2007, 7:39 am
Correct - If you bring food - don't bring stuff that needs cooked. It appears that we have no way to cook it.
The Bird has excellent burgers, so when all else fails, we get burgers from there, then return to the park.
Re softball - OMG! SOFTBALL!?! Where do you play... I seriously need to go watch/play too. Bring the bat/ball and gloves anyone?
I'll bring a deck of cards or two.

Ditto - what an amazing turnout. Whomever took pictures, please be sure to post in an album and/or a link to them.
I'm working on getting some from 'cellus when I get a chance. Since he still has no internet, it may be a few days before those get posted.

It was a great party!
The guitar player had to give the guitar back to someone else, but we all had a nice chat. Probably better that way since I, for one, should never be heard singing.
