Just because you date a German doesn't mean you cannot be racist. Now I wouldn't call you racist, but some of the things you have said definitely fall into the ignorant category.


Sweet pea? Oh please... actually most people here are English native speakers. That is what the forum is for: the English-speaking crowd in Germany as opposed to the German-speaking one. I am German but most members are not. The majority of people who have replied to your topic are Americans, British, etc, not Germans.
And trust me, I practice my English all the time, TT is part of my daily English dose. It may sound arrogant but I am well aware of my English writing and speaking skills being good, so until you know how to spell basic German words (no, it is not a requirement, but if you are going to use German to show off your skills, please do it right), do not criticize my or anyone else's English. If I had been dating someone of another nationality for two years, I would have at least enough interest in their culture and language to know how to say & spell "goodbye" in their language.

By the way, if you had ever paid attention to the other topics on this forum, you would have quickly noticed how often they are about "the Germans"... now if we were all German, we would hardly be having so many topics about them.

I don't think you can ever teach someone coming from the prudish American culture to take nudity easy (trust me, I'm American)... they have to live in a place like Germany to understand that the sight of a breast in public (or a naked child at the beach for that matter) does not incite a spontaneous orgy.

Sorry, but in no culture is it appropriate to take out your breast to show your nipple piercing to your older male relative. Sounds like a youngster seeking attention and the older relative was trying to be supportive and didn´t realize he should set boundaries rather than let the poor girl get away with everything. And then the GF freaks out since the relationship is obviously not ok, and makes a fuss out of a lot of nothings. I think most normal people would choose family over a GF of two years if forced to choose for stupid reasons by someone like curious22. He probably dumped her and she won´t tell us because that would mean we were all RIGHT!

in your first post you went on about how they kept talking in German, and your German is good enough to know that they were talking about you and making jokes about you and whatnot... but by the German skills you have demonstrated here I think you are really full of shit and had absolutely no idea what they were talkign about but since you are so paranoid you figured they must have been bad mouthing you.

And you seem so proud that you are still with your German man...you have top bring it up in like every post that either you've made up, your still together, you've been with him for 2 WHOLE YEARS etc... wow congratulations, what a relief that he didn't dump your ass. Maybe he is as desperate as you are?

And its just funny how you keep bashing the Germans as that some how hurts us? As others have mentioned, the majority here are Brits or Americans...and all you are doing is reinforcing the bad reputation Americans have for being ignorant and narrow minded. Somehow you have been with this German guy (who I'm still confused about, I mean is he your boyfriend or your husband? Why the hell do you call him husband!!!???!!!) and still no crap about his culture and can't speak the language whatsoever? How is that possible? Maybe this German man you are with is made up? Just another side note...

One of the things that I was pleasantly surprised about when my German was finally good enough to understand what other people were saying, is that German's tend NOT to badmouth people as much as Americans do, and in particular, not when the person they are badmouthing is in the same room, regardless or not of whether they understand the language.

I remember when I was new in Germany, I would wonder whether people speaking German in the room were talking shit about other people who couldn't understand (i.e. myself), because that would frequently be the case in the US. But I noticed that Germans, if they are in the middle of a conversation and someone, for example, walks into the pub, undresses and proceeds to throw darts, may at most give each other a look of acknowledgement that something odd is happening, but they will not talk shit about the person while they are right there. I've often had to curb myself when in the company of Germans, because my instinct would be to shout "what the f@$!"?, but that's not as often done here.

That is the biggest bunch of bull ever. Germans talk and bitch just as much as Americans do. At work, in social situations, whatever. Perhaps you don't understand as well as you think you do.
