Office workspace and connections in Berlin

Temporary coworking facilities for freelancers

As working myself for long periods as a freelancer in Japan and China and some other countries, I know how important it is to have your own workspace, and how hard it is to find that – I am not talking about an internetcafé! – and the most important of cause is to meet the “right? people to work with.

1st of may THE BUSINESS CLASS. NET I opened the Berlin office – giving foreigners the opportunity to find an easy and cheap workspace, - and: connections to work in Berlin.

The BCN-Ports are workstations for people coming from abroad for some time looking for a temp. office – Plug and Play Office. These ports function as network knots between the local network and the www. To share information as well as technical know how... and of cause to build up cultural connections, made by the people themselves and not by institutions!
...

You find all information and details on my web page under IDEA www.TheBusinessClass.Net , also FAIRCHISE gives a lot of information about the project with photo walkthroughs, floorplans, maps and online booking... Till now the web page is in English and German, four other languages are in work at the moment and will be online end of this month.

I am sure that this is a very helpful tool to get things started in an other city - hope you are interested in this project and write an article/posting about it.

I appreciate TheBusinessClass's efforts (the web-based booking system is nice), but 89 Euros for a single week of desk space is simply too much.

Does anyone know any others or, more importantly, can *recommend* something?
Deccie
I would have thought 89 yo yos for a desk for a week would be pretty reasonable. I doubt you will get any cheaper unless you resort to working from home, which I realise is not what you wish to do.
UrbanAngel
You could try negociating with them, ie pay on a monthly or quartertly basis instead, and the cost may go down..

Check out dockboerse.de, dasauge.net as well as any sites related to your particular work and you can likely find a spot -- even temporarily -- for 150-200 a month.

However, to be fair, there would be a certain amount of hassle with those whereas with homey here you probably just come in and work and don't have to feel obliged to join in the 10 a.m. foosball challenge.

Oh, it's a New York thing. I think it's about time to make BER != NYC t-shirts.
Deccie
just checked the website again and it is 249 Euro for 4 calendar weeks.

Welcome to Berlin, now go back to Brooklyn.

I'm just brainstorming here.

Deccie, €89/week is reasonable for high-quality desk space (which I assume TBC offers). €249/month is actually pretty decent!

I was just surprised because most other places I've found seem to have desk space (as in: open plan) for €100-€150/month and shared rooms or even your own room starting at €200. There may be a big difference in work space quality, of course. I'm going to take a look at a bunch of options and report back. :-)

Thanks everyone!

As a freelancer myself (who hates working on my own at home!), I have also been looking into this kind of thing recently and, although "The Business Class" looks very promising, I agree that the price is too high - my limit would be around 150 a month. There are always adverts in Zitty for desks in Bürogemeinschafte, some starting as low as 100 euros a month...

I'll have a look there then. Thanks!
