Hi. Can someone tell me if an unlocked mobile manufactured in Austria/Germany will work with a UK SIM in it back in England? I am keen to buy an Emporia Life Phone for elderly mum and the company have just released it in some European countried but not UK. If I go onto ebay Germany or Austria, there are half a dozen or so to buy but I can't translate the advert even with babelfish! (There are actually loads of interested people here who are aksing online how to get hold of one - so maybe one of you could make a few bob selling them from Germany but on ebay UK! - me being your first customer!) Thanks in advance Kate

I don't know if you saw this, but it should be available at the end of this month in Britain. It looks like a really good thing for people who have trouble with the mini buttons on most phones, my mum still uses her 5 year old philips for this reason alone, although it's pretty expensive for a fairly basic phone, but hell if it means they can use it easily it's worth it. I'm no mobile expert but I can't imagine it won't work in Britain with a UK SIM card, the only thing that may be a problem is that the menus might not be in English, but I can't really believe that could be the case.

I saw this phone at CeBIT this year and it was being demonstrated with English menus. If it's not SIMlocked I don't see why it won't work in the UK. All emergency numbers are programmable, except emergency services (112) which does work in UK. The only thing you will need is a 13A power adapter for the Schuko based power supply.
