Problems visiting Switzerland or France

US citizen with temporary German residence permit

Hello,
I'm a US citizen who has been in Germany on a temporary non-work permit for 5 months (renewed once). The local German authorities told me I might not be allowed back into Germany even while the permit is valid if I left. Anybody know if I am going to have problems if I travel to Switzerland and then fly back from France? I plan on leaving Europe completely before the permit expires.
Thanks!

Maybe if you get stopped by the German Border guards, However ever since the Schengen agreement There are no border
controlls with-in the EU countries (execpt between the UK and the Mainland EU). If going to switzerland, only the swiss will
check when you enter switzerland. There are no german controlls coming back into germany. Atleast not permanent
ones but sometimes they do setup Temp. checks.

Huh? Haven't been to Switzerland for a while but, are you trying to say that the Germans don't check when someone leaves the Schengen Area for Switzerland? How are you travelling, by train, car, or plane? Doesn't sound right.

if you come back from France then there will be no check in Germany anyway

Yeah, had to reread that he is flying back from France. But I still don't get the part about not being checked on the way out of the zone for Switzerland. Like I said, I haven't been there for a while and things may have changed.

If you are leaving Germany, then they officer can say well you will have some problems returning but they are not going to restrict you from leaving. I did it on a trip to Spain and on the way back there was a control (because I traveled via London). I don't think you will have major worries unless there is a temporary control or an arse looking to make your day. rolleyes.gif
