Cheating the Irish driving penalty points system

Getting a German license for returning to Ireland

Hi all.

I am nearly finished my Erasmus Student life here in Munich (and what a laugh it was).

I am wondering about the whole irish driving penalty point thing for speeding etc.

If i swop my irish licence for a german one, i guess i have to forfeit my irish one.
Then when i use the german one back in Ireland, can i get penalty points?
As i am not seen as an Irish Driving Licence Holder do i only pay the fines encured on these speeding etc fines and then have no penalty points.

If this is the case, a few further enqueries.

How do i change my licence
Is there an expiration date on the german licence
As i will be leaving the country does this hinder my ability to gain the german licence
Would not having an irish licence increase my insurance premium (i am a 21 year old male student living in dublin...not sure if it can get much more expensive)
How long would the process take to complete to get the licence as i am leaving the country at the end of june until the end of july

Thanks in advance

PS...can foreigners lving in ireland driving irish cars but with foreign licences get penalty points? (should really ask some foreigner in ireland that though)
oozen
Although in theory it is possible, at least in UK, plod these days verify with DVLA if you have a current UK license and if you are resident there, even if you do not hold a British license, they have the technology the tot the numbers up just in case you decide to get UK license, then apply your final figure to that.

interesting question and it seems that this is the current state of affairs

QUOTE
If you are driving on a foreign driving licence in Ireland and acquire penalty points here, you will receive the normal statutory fine but the penalty points will not be added to your foreign driving licence. If you subsequently exchange your foreign driving licence for an Irish driving licence, your Irish penalty points will then be activated on your new Irish driving licence.

BTW: that citizens informtion site is also a very good reference for other passport/ moving/ random bureaucratic info that you might need.
