Bush in Albania

The watch is snatched between 0:50 and 1:00.

How many explanations have there been?
1. It fell off.
2: A bodyguard removed it for safety.
3. It fell off and a bodyguard retrieved it.
4. ...

laugh.gif Brilliant! They could have stolen his trousers at the same time and it would have taken Tony Snow to explain it to him.

it's would be embarrassing to the albanian hosts for the americans to admit there was a thief among the crowd, so they're dishing up the usual lines

then again, he does seem to look down at the ground a couple of times, but nobody else in the ss seems to bend over to pick anything up. oder?

When you are the President´s bodyguard I don´t think your job is so much to protect his watch in a huge crowd...

good to see a lonely pick pocket has the better of so many body guards ph34r.gif hope for us all against the system

By the way, his wedding ring is gone too, and they have no explanation for that, or so I understood from this ITV video:

quite right, but there are always a half-dozen of them around - one of them could have done so.

wonder if it's shown up on eBay?

This is like watching a TV evangelist... why the adoration?

And who stole his brain?

These criminals work in gangs. The adoration was just a standard diversion technique so that Fagan the Albanian could work his magic.

And who stole his brain?

Cocaine and whiskey.
I definitely saw a hand lingering on his left wrist. Good work, though.

A Government spokesman said Bush took his watch off and put it in his pocket while he was doing the walkabout. Obviously doesn't trust the Albanians.
up-side-down
You'd think that'd be standard procedure for any high-profile politician going on walkabout.

All that handshaking, it's highly likely a watch would get torn off even if not deliberately stolen.
righter
Wasn't worth much though

But when he finally emerged from the scrum in Fushe Kruje his £25 Timex, with a distinctive stars and stripes on its face, was missing. Within hours Albanian TV was screening footage showing the president wearing the watch as the visit began - but bare-wristed at the end.
Ruthie
He defo didn't have time to take the watch off and put it in his pocket. Can anyone see whether he's wearing his wedding ring in the beginning?

helping to end the communist system and preventing the Balkans descending into worse chaos than it did maybe - not too bad reasons I guess
Kay
@br
But all that was well before his time - he only came into office in 2001.

Maybe the guy's not so dumb - at least when it comes to protecting personal property. Just saw on RTL news from another camera angle Bush appearing to take off the watch and put it in his pocket.

Er... excuse me Mr. Rat, but I really don't think Dubya had bollock-all to do with the collapse of The Soviet Union and the end of communist rule in Albania. Also, funny (Ha-Ha) really that Albania's PM is one of those former Communist leopards that changed their spots (if you believe that, you'll believe anything). Too much is made of the "C" word. It would be more apt to refer to Albania pre-1990 as an 'isolationist dictatorship', but of course, certain western cretins can't take any glory unless they can use the good old "C" word.

So let's have some crystal clear reality in monochromatic black and white. If you're dopey enough to go buy a secondhand motor from an Albanian then you're in the same boat as a dopey government expecting Albania to do and say anything you want. Get it straight: Albania don't give a fuck. They want the cash. You can tick them off the list and add them to 'The Coalition of The Billing' or 'One of the one's with us rather than against us', but they'll smile a toothless smile, nod subserviently... and steal yer fuckin' watch, make no mistake about it.

And if you disagree with me, I dare you to go buy a secondhand car from an Albanian.

I'm assuming that they are expressing their feelings towards the USA, rather than Bush personally

He took it off himself, you can see from another angle:
