Tell me plz, I want to know! Are all German girls and women (well, perhaps most rather than all, and Hamburgian rather than German) super thin, or am I being super paronoid??!! Maybe it's where I live (near the alster) and everyone is so rich they can sub their tic tacs in their little tic tac boxes with slimming pills, but since moving here I've developed quite a complex... And I'm kinda sinny myself!

Not just you, I don't know how they do it. And they have this tan thing going on too.

Healthy and not fat perhaps?

What's healthy and "not fat" have to do with being unnaturally orange tanned? I find that German woman tend to have nicer legs-- but if they are at all fat, it tends to collect around the tummy. They do put in a lot more time walking and biking than, for example, a lot of American women do.

Well on the Ubahn when I'm going to work there are all this skinny mini orange girls my age going to school. That must take so much time to look like that, who really could be bothered?

I meant as to why they are "skinny". When you come from a culture where fat is everywhere, many tend to refer to people here as skinny instead of normal.

Na I'm normal, they are skinny.

Yeah, fair point, eurovol. I think it's not that they spend hours a day working out or anything-- but they do get a lot more normal everyday exercise in than you really do in the States. I think that makes a big difference. But the unnatural tan thing... it's just not right.

If you see the number of joggers along Alster (and elsewhere), you know why!

Yes. True. German people
are just normal sized. Some even over-sized.
When you live a healthy & active lifestyle, its really quite hard to get fat. German people just walk/ride their bikes more.
As for the tans - tanning salons are very popular here. Tans also makes you look skinnier.

It was on the German News the other day that Germans are getting fatter and amongst the fattest in Europe. And when I say news it was ARD as well.
Can't remember the figures but the men came Top fattest (I think) just above or same place as the UK and the women nearer top with the UK women a 5 points higher... I think you will find that weight issues tend to be linked to your class in Northern Europe...so if you are in a nice area with lots of Rich Moms and hot Sloaneys maybe that is the reason...
Or maybe Hamburg brings down the average for Germany compared to some proli areas like the Rhine or East Germany!!! who knows...

I think it has a lot to do with diet and lifestyle. Eat less fat and ride your bike, you won't be carrying around many extra pounds. My wife never works out, has never dieted, is not a rich alster type, yet looks great.

yeah, i agree. i think it's the biking. well, if it wasn't law to wear a helmet in australia, i think more ppl would cycle there too... but how gay to helmets look!!?? my boss it the typical; blonde, brown (hang on, no, as afore mentioned, more orange than brown), excellent legs and perfect make-up. but she lives on bread and pasta, so there goes the carb myth! i think it's about not snacking, and staying away from softdrink (even apple soda mix isn't as dangerous as softdrink). one thing about germany that i really do appreciate is how active and energetic ppl seem to be. they love the outdoors. maybe it'll eventually rub off on me. lol, actually, i can ride a bike now. and i'm not terrified to ride amongst traffic anymore!

I do have to admit when I first came to Germany and looked at the girls I asked myself how any of them move furniture without the help of menfolk.

Yep, summer is a good time to dust off the bike and get out and about. Hammonia and I recently bought bikes and are looking forward to Hamburg's limited summer.

Skinny doesn't mean hot though. The girls here are all a fairly standard shape; just straight up and down. It is rare when I see a German woman that actually has some attractive curves.

yup there are more slimmer, taller girls in hamburg than, say UK. agreed, many tangoed faces, sunbed slappers, you know . . . i thinks its all that multikorn dark bread and cold meat dinners, cycling and walking mentality. but, on the other hand there are more humourless, direct, cold, arrogant than, say UK.

Seriously Why are we writing nasty things about the Hamburg women being skinny?
Would you be any happier if they were fat??
If other women taking effort in their apearance makes you feel insecure- make more of an effort with yourself if it bothers you that much-
Some people are just naturally thin- and if their not...well thats their bag- don't blame them if you have weight issues or self esteem issues with your body.
Your not always going to be the same weight/ as the women in your host country- and FYI German women are certainly not the only women around with those horrible over sunbed tanned faces and bodies, lol... there are plenty of english girls who follow that route too.
Also what do we call skinny?? what size are we talking here? everyone has their own ideals of what is healthy, normal or skinny etc...
I weight 48kgs but I would never discribe myself as skinny... I have plenty of curves! this is why I'm curious?

I'd venture a guess that it has something to do with not driving everywhere and not having super size menus at the 14 fast food joints within spitting distance of your house...

You think? I've found the women here to be much friendlier than back home, and more approachable - in fact I've been surprised (and very pleased by) how often they actually initiate a conversation with you here, whereas in England they seem to have decided that even if they really like a guy, he has to initiate proceedings otherwise it's never gonna happen...

Yeah, by what i have read so far from all the posts, its true...Germany has some skinny/slim females who are mostly around 20's...but i have seen many of 'em havin' a bit of beer belly ..or woteva u call it..! At the same time, i have seen lotsa obese people too and heard that Germany is growing to be the country with most obese people in europe..!
And, yes..lotsa women do a lot of walking and biking...!
I know of one female who's my friend's friend...She is slim, skinny and beautiful now...and i heard that she was a plump, obese kid before...but she put on a lot of hard work and attended slimming programmes, etc ..and also smokes (not a gud example..but just saying..)...! Whateva she did, she looks gorgeous now anyways..! :-)

Spot on Kittles spot on! I don't get people who have to criticise everything. You get the same mix of people everywhere (fat, skinny, rich, poor, polite, rude, etc etc. ) no matter what country you live in. I guess some people just can't help themself and criticise rather than taking their blinkers off.

I think genetics play a role too.
Northern German women have legs that are rather long and thin, small asses, square hips and shoulders.
Of course you can t generalise, but I do see much of this profile here than in many other places.
And what s with the pink Palestinian scarf ? Thank good this shit is getting out of fashion.

I'd agree with one of the replies here, healthy as opposed to fat. One thing I always notice when i come over from the UK is everyone seems to lose 2 dress sizes (the Women that is!) and gain 2 inches (in height). Then again I am Welsh, and we aren't exactly known for our giant stature! lol
