Transporting a couch by wheeling it across town

Taking furniture for a walk, is this legal?

In mid July my friend moves home to England and has kindly said I can have his super comfy couch bed. I move in with my bf in september so it doesn't make sense to hire a van yet to bring it to my old apartment, plus being gorgeously young like he is I doubt we could rent one anyway.

Here's the catch, I have no car, and I don't think the Ubahn is an option. My house is 6.84kms away. I am thinking of chucking some of those plant wheely thingy under it and making a trip of pushing it here, down the footpath of schließheimerstr.

Now how legal would this be in Munich? Would the cops fine us or something for taking a couch for a walk?

Can i sponsor this? Comedy Gold this is! laugh.gif

It probably is illegal and punishable by Zyklon B...we are in Germany after all. However, myself and a friend of mine did exactly that (but only to a distance of 6.79kms, not sure if that's important or not) and all was peachy..apart from it being a muthafucking pain in my ring piece.

Kinda got the idea from this, we used to take my mates couch into town when I was at high school.

Who's the hot bitch in the green hat? She has one sexy swagger by the looks of it.

Yeah, we used to attach those little roller wheels from beds/cabinets & the like to our furniture and have furniture races down Great North Road back in AK...good fun so it is...the 5-0 (is that what you whippersnappers call the filth these days?) thought otherwise

Why in the world should this be illegal? Because it might be amusing? Power to your elbows, and tape it for YouTube.

Looks like there's going to be some awesome couch surfing going down!

Thought they might have something against us on the footpath, or maybe I would need to fill out millions of papers to get a soft furniture licence tongue.gif

Anyone fancy doing a leg of the relay? wink.gif

Waho cantthink has offered his camera for this hehe. Ok so it is his couch.

If you get arrested at least you'll have something comfy to sleep on in jail. biggrin.gif

Yea was also thinking at least I will have a place to rest when we get tired. Cantthink also suggested I bring my laptop along with a few movies for entertainment on the road.

All 3 seats are taken for this trip now. Sorry to disappoint all those PMing me desperatly to join in this once in a lifetime adventure.

You would be comletely lame if you didn't have a dog, and stereo (battery operated and playing some cheesy 80's music) and at least one crate of beer on the couch for the move. Take some good pics.
sarabyrd
Are you on roller-blades as well? That would so totally be cool!
cabbagefairy
Already done the dog thing (see evidence above) was thinking of maybe branching out to something a little more hip.

Would we get done for drunk couch driving? Now that would be the best fine ever!

You're going to need a Gebrauchtesschlafsofastrassenumzugszondergenehmigungsurlaubernis for this. You can get them on the first Tuesday morning of the month from the Rathaus in Marienplatz between 09:00am and 09:35 am. Ask for Herr R.v. Winkle.

Thanks for the tip! Will definatly make sure to get one when I'm getting my soft furniture license, although I'm considering getting second class for the hard furniture to as this may turn into a race between the couch and his wardrobe.

C'mon people I see couch Olympics here. What better way for the English expat community to remind Germany you guys are there than a couch Olympics! Puts some roller skates on those babies and luge down maximillian strasse. Couch pillow tossing (can be done randomly and best if done this way), Love seat stacking etc.

I ended up using the man with a van as the wheels were going to cost twice the price...just moved it again though and discovered it undoes and can just fit into the car!!!
