Where to go for a workout in Munich

Hi,
We are visiting Munich and then Stuttgart in late June. My daughter is used to swimming about 5000 yards 6 days a week in the US and would like to find a place to fit in a workout in the morning or late afternoon during our visit. It looks like the Olympic Swimming Centre has open swim all day, but also says that it is the site for team practices, etc. Does anyone have advice on when to go there during the day? We will be staying on Lindwurmstrasse. thank you for any advice you have.

in munich, I would recommend the Olympia Park. 50m pool, with lane lines for sport swimming (many pools in Munich do not section off portions of the pool, so you have to deal with people floating / "swimming" every which way).

Also, be aware: the locals are (surprisingly) not that good at organizing themselves by fast lane / slow lane. They will jump in anywhere and swim a very slow breast stroke in front of you without a care in the world that you are doing sprint training. that's just the way they are... so try to go when the pool is not so crowded if you have a set workout.

I could not find on their website ( http://www.olympiapark-muenchen.de/index.p...ia-schwimmhalle ) any information on the teams practice times. but they do have a schedule posted right by the entrance doors. I found it very easy to work around the teams' schedules (I usually went late in the evenings). Oh, that reminds me, the entry price drops around 8PM and a lot of people wait for that magic moment when they can save a euro.

and just so you know, there is a (separate, and extra cost) sauna in the facility (as is the case in most public pools). It is really nice, but it may shock some North American sensibilities, since it is co-ed, all ages, and "towel only". But no worries, you will *not* accidentally enter that area.

The Dantebad and Schyrenbad are both 50m outdoor pools. The Dantebad actually has more than one 50m pool and I know the main pool has lanes roped off for lap swimming.
The best time to go is probably in the mornings as quite a few people swim in their lunch hours if the weather is nice.

As you don't specify you only want chlorinated indoor pools: if you can put up with cold water and river swimming then jump in any of Munich's numerous streams (there's a nice one in the Maria Something Bad open air pool not far from the Tierpark bridge over the Isar) or the Isar and swim against the current. It's like having an endless pool and much less crowded, with no chlorine. Of course you don't know how far you've swum but who cares if you're getting the exercise. Also there are various lakes and even a thread somewhere on TT (IIRC) about which are best for swimming.

The Isar is very cold. I would recommend any of the lakes for real swimming practice. They're not as cold as the Isar and large enough to swim without anyone getting in your way.
Edit: I just noted that you'll only be visiting, and she wants to swim twice a day. In that case, why not just make sure you get a hotel with a pool? Hotel pools are just for guests and generally not crowded. Trecking out to a lake (or a public pool, for that matter) twice a day would take up too much of your time.
