Life in Pasing or Obermenzing

Opinions on what it's like living there

My husband was offered a job in Munich and we're thinking about moving over from London. We're looking to buy a house in the western part of Munich and quite like the sound of Pasing or Obermenzing. On all the previous threads about where to live in Munich I've never come across either. Any ideas why? Do any of you actually live there or know somebody who does?

Living in Pasing is a great compromise between getting into town quickly and getting out of town quickly.
Public transport to the centre is frequent and quick (15 mins to Marienplatz) and the motorway is right there too (although it will soon become a pain if you have to get to the east of the city, but I guess you've thought about that).

Hi Jeeves, why will it soon become a pain to get to the east?

My ex grew up in O'Menzing and moved back there when we split. He LOVES it. It's a semi-ritzy neighborhood with loads of green space and a small lake. Also nearby are the botanical gardens and Schloss Nymphenberg, both stunning. The schools are top notch also, if you are bringing kids along.

I'm a semi-ritzy mofo, so naturally I live in Obermenzing.

Pros : Still straddles the grey area between town and country. Relatively peacefull. Lot of garden/open space. Proximity to the river Würm, which is great to ride along. S-Bahn into munich every 10 minutes.

Cons: Houses with large gardens being bought up by developers, who then erect twenty appartments. Kindergarten places difficult to get because Houses with large gardens..etc. Property not cheap(because houses with...etc)

In short, recommended.
