Will be in the real States on that day. Ah well. I'll participate again someday.

I'm in.
I feel like kids in the zoo puts men in the competition at a disadvantage, because I would assume generally parents don't respond well to single men taking pictures of their children.
But I like the idea of just regular zoo pictures.
It runs the risk of people confusing exotic subject matter with genuine good composition. I mean anyone can throw a zoom lens on the end of a camera and take a picture of a rhinoceros

I think that might be a competition for kids rather than a competition consisting of pictures of kids.
I see Gideon's comment now. Yeah, photos of kids is not a good idea.

I suspect that most people who have been involved in previous competitions get that idea.

I know there is still a few weeks to go but is this still going ahead (I saw Pootle's post (#19) where he is now unable to make it)? Would anyone else be able to bring a laptop/card reader or two along so we can download our shots?
Following on from my previous post (#7) I should be able to make the date (I am getting married the following day but it's the Stadesamt part and the big day is not until later that week!).

Just a quick mention, if the weather is "ok ish" I'm heading to the
touch rugby on Saturday to take some pictures. Dont really want to make a big competition about it, but its a great way to start getting some sport experience.

Ok, I said I would bring my laptop, but last night I witnessed it having a meltdown...so, sorry but I no longer have a laptop to bring. :'(
Keydeck
Aug 23 2007, 8:32 am
I'll definitely bring mine so.
So are people still on for meeting outside the
zoo at 11:30am?
Adult admission EUR 9,00
Children (4-14 years) EUR 4,50
Pupils (15 years and older) and Students EUR 6,00
There's a group rate of €6 per person for groups of over 20, so I think we can forget that.
If you're interested, feeding times are as follows:
11:00 penguins
11:30 sea lions
13:00 tigers
14:30 sea lions
15:00 penguins, african hunting dogs, aquarium
15:30 lions, jaguars, ocelot, great apes
I would suggest that we set a post-shooting meetup location outside the zoo itself as the place shuts at 6pm and depending on how the day goes it's better not to have to be rushed.
Of course, if there's a general anti-zoo vibe then we can do something else instead. Let's hear what people think.

Keydeck: I plan on coming along on Sunday too but can you just clarify where the meeting point is? According to the website there are actually two entrances to the zoo (
link), one they call the "
Isar Entrance" (closest to the UBahn) and the "Flamingo Entrance" (Bus 52 stop). I have only ever used the "Isar Entrance" closest to the UBahn station.
Did you mean that one?

You can get a transferable ticket valid for 10 entries costing €60 ...
If you guys (eight if I counted correctly) get this transferable ticket you will get in for €6.25 each. Just a thought. Have a great time, I will be doing taxes.

One other question--typically how long do these things run?
Keydeck
Aug 25 2007, 8:10 pm
No worries, we'll sort it all out when we meet at 11:30. Should be fun!
We can set a finish time when we meet, but generally we meet up again to submit the entries at about 4pm or thereabouts.
Basically we meet, head in and then meet up later at a predefined pub place where you can go through your photos on a laptop and choose the one that you want to enter. Typically you'll be given about 5 minutes or so to decide which one to enter.
