Hello out there,
I am looking for some hiking partners to do some day trips around NRW, weekend trips, or even trips 'abroad' to do some 'wandern'. I just got back from the Santiago trail in Spain end of April and its fabulous, so I am ready to do some more - my shoes are broken in! Let me know if you are interested

cheers

Hey Lizzylou,
I am new to Düsseldorf, and I love to hike. I would be up for day trips on the weekend to start, since I'll be working during the week. Let me know if/when you have plans, and we can talk!

For your information, someone in Bonn organised a 7-hills hike series (in the Siebengebirge) last year.
I've done a couple of these which are not particularly demanding unless you start out on the Rhein itself.
Plenty of Cafe's etc in the vicinity to provide refreshments.
The Eifel also offers plenty of marked trails, including a large demilitarised zone.

I'm definitely interested in some hiking...keep me posted if anything happens! I live in Wiesbaden but it is still easy for me to get to the Mosel or the Eifel.

I'm interested in seeing more of the Rhineland/Mosel. I work too so weekend day trips suit me best. Looking forward to seeing what's planned.

Yep, still interested... I guess we just have to settle for something concrete… e.g. what sort of destinations do we have in mind?

Great - I have not really done any hiking in Germany yet...only have been here a short time. Just based on some reading online, I think it would be cool to head down to Mosel for a first trip. Any suggestions would be welcome. How about the second or third weekend in February? We could do either a Saturday or a Sunday.

Mosel is a good place to start; we can search for specific locations. Somewhere in the Eifel could be also an option.
i kind of wanted to use this opportunity also in order to escape this area during the carnival as i am not a big fan of it. This is why i was thinking for instance about the 3/4.2 (?) but perhaps the trains will be extremely full. By the way, how do we intend to go? And who would like to join?...

Hi there,
we're not in NRW but next door in RLP. Would love to go on a hike in Eifel or Mosel area. The next few weekends are out as I have exams and then we have friends coming to stay. But if you do manage to get going another time a bit later in Feb or March, we'd love to join. Especially if there are a few nice cafes on the way.

Turasteanga, you are welcome any time!
So, what do we have? heading either to Mosel or somewhere in the Eifel, aspiadas might come along and thus we’ll even avoid squeezing in the full trains of carnival. Does Sunday, Feb 3ed work for murfc, sportkiwi and anyone else who would like to join? We shall certainly decide on a bit accurate destination. I’ll do some research myself too and we’ll come up with some suggestions before next Sunday.
Meeting point?

Cheers dimibu!
I will have much more free time during end of Feb or March and it will be good for me to get to know the Eifel region as I will be basing my project on this particular Naturpark so lots of research (hiking, checking facilities for supply of refreshments and snacks) necessary.
About time we used those hiking boots we bought all those years ago
Have fun this time, and we will definitely be there next time!

I was thinking it might be best to start up an email group for our "hiking club"...it might be easier to communicate through an email group...as well as organize events. Do you guys think this would be useful?

I have created a Google Group...just email nrw-hiking-group@googlegroups.com and I will add you to the group. I think this will help us all get a little better organized and get some events on the calendar.

Feb 3 2008, 10:10 am
somehow the communication via google didn’t really work. So, sportykiwi, it is really a perfect weather, but I guess it would be a too spontaneous to actually go today, would it? Where are you and how did you plan to go?… aspiadas offered to drive, not sure if he still in though. Chris tried to post something on google too, so I suppose he is still interested. Ok guys, let’s move!
next Sunday, Feb. 10th?

Sunday the 10th would be good. I can drive no prob. How about starting a walk starting in Königswinter - I can't drive too far away.

Aspiadas that would be great. Thanks. If Sportykiwi, Chris and halfasleep are still in that means that there are 5 of us!
Königswinter is the goal… we don’t really have a plane, halfasleep. You can suggest one, if you’d like:)
Aspiadas, have you hiked in Königswinter before?
Since the communication via google didn’t really work, what’s the best for us to communicate beforehand?

Feb 4 2008, 11:32 am
Hi, yes I have hiked there before. It's not too long, I think there are various routes. Maybe we can get hold of
a guide - I think it comes under Westerwald. The highlight is probably the Drachenfels. Maybe it's a bit of a wimpy
hike but it's a start.
Ok so I got clearance from my g/f to be away on Sunday

. So I would suggest leaving from Cologne at about
09:30. Pickup in Bonn at 10:00 - How does that sound ?
I guess we can PM each other for email addresses etc.

Some info i have found about konigswinter from wiki. Heres some of the highlights:
"Drachenfels is a mountain in Königswinter where, according to legend, Siegfried slayed the dragon that lived on the mountain.
+
Near konigswinter:-
Siebengebirge - has Ölberg, the region's highest mountain, with a nice view on the landscape. (about half an hour)"
Current bbc weather forcast on sunday is Sunny!!!

The hike was really nice and yes, I think a repeat will be planned for sometime in April. The group's got a google thing going so if you'd like to join, the best thing to do is to PM murfc with an email address.
