can anyone tell me where i can find an art cinema? i just got here and, although i do enjoy hollywood films, i am particularly fond of art cinema.

i asked a lady at the information center (können sie mir sagen, wo ich Kunstkino finden kann?) and she looked at me like my head had exploded.

This doesn't really answer your question, but I think you'd be interested in the upcoming Munich Filmfest, from June 22nd to 30th. Plenty of international films on offer which you probably wouldn't get to see otherwise, and most with English subtitles. One of the many great things about living here!

The films and schedule aren't available yet, but see the official site for details.

She probably thought you were looking for somewhere showing films with 'scenes of a sexual nature' cool.gif

This site might be a good starting point (scroll down to München)

If you are based in Munich, I recommend picking up a copy of the Sueddeutsche Zeitung on Thursdays for the SZ-Extra section which is a 'Culture/What's-on-Guide'. The film listings cover art as well as Hollywood films and where they are showing in the coming week...

Don't know if you are still around, but ARRI on the corner of Adalbertstr. & Turkenstr. and Film Casino on Odeonspl. tend to show non-mainstream stuff, and are very pleasant. I haven't been to Monopol on Felitzstr. yet but their programm looks very promising. There is also a place that plays old art movies, I think it might be Flimmuseum. The Muenchen.de website has useful listings: link

Pinakothek der Modern also shows movies once a week I think, it is listed under "cultural events" on their website.
