It's weird. Cannot even be a provider or country thing as I am in Spain... Maybe something is wrong with their DNS or whatever.

works fine for me, here's a C&P of the story:
QUOTE
A DUTCH conman masquerading as a down-on-his-luck Irishman is successfully swindling people out of money and stealing guitars all over Germany and Belgium.
Using the alias 'Robbie Boland' the fraudster appears to be targeting Irish pubs, usually claiming to be a professional guitar player from Limerick. He professes to be a big fan of GAA and sings a host of old Irish songs . . . although apparently his version of 'Ride On' is not quite up to par.
It recently seemed Boland's luck had run out when his true identity was discovered by an Irish pub owner, who set up a 'sting operation' to have him apprehended by the German police.

Link works for me fine. The photos are very small, but you'd probably recognise him from them. He's the one in the black shirt.

I find it a little surprising that a Dutchman can pass himself off successfully as an Irishman, especially as he targets Irish pubs and many of his victims are (presumably) Irish landlords.
However accomplished a mimic he is, the genuine article should be able to spot him a mile off.
I have heard many a non-English person speaking excellent 'native speaker standard' English, but there is always something which doesn't quite gel - intonation, idiom, slang, even swearing.

Nah, I know several Germans, having spent a year in Ireland, the States, the UK, etc, have almost a faultess accent and language use. It doesn't surprise me. Anyways, if it's pretty good and you think you are talking to an Irishman, you don't sit there and try and listen for what doesn't fit with the accent.
When I first came to Munich I made friends with a Bavarian in GMs who could have passed for an Irishman any day. He was a well dodgy bugger too, as I'm sure sarabyrd and Scogs will confirm. Mme Sin saw right through him, so he didn't get the chance to rip me off.

Yep, from Deggendorf, went by the nickname of O'Leary.
Do you know I never ever heard him called O'Leary, and I thought I knew him well.

Hi everybody,
I want to say I agree. Be aware of this man. I have a lot of awful experiences with him. I have had a relationship with him for 3 years. When I met him he told me his name was Robbie Boland and that he is from Ireland. Big big stories. After a couple of weeks I had to go to the hospital and there he spoke Dutch to the nurses and doctors. He told me that he could speak Dutch because of his Dutch grandfather. Naive as I was, I believed him. I wish I didn't because the next three years he has beaten me up at least 2 or 3 times a week. He stole 20.000 euros from me. And he lied to me about everything.
He is a type of man who search for women who has problems with themselves and are not that stabil at the time. He will break them down for his own profit.
After I think one and a half year he called the police because I had run away (I hadn't, I was hiding under the bed). When the police arrived I showed up and they immediately arrested him because my face looked like a rugbyball was pasted on it. He had hit me so hard that I still have a hard piece of bone in my cheek which will not go away ever. The police found out his real name is Robbie van Spaendonck. He got birth in Tilburg (South of Holland). His mother's name is Margriet. He lied about everything.
While he was in prison he wrote me letters the size of ... well, very long letters. I felt sorry for him. He obviously is sick in his head (I thought). I visited him (I know what you are thinking now... how stupid... yes, it was stupid) in prison and decided to help him. I told him I would take him back only if he would find an own place to stay, a normal job to provide for his own food AND DRINKS and that he would go to therapy. Well, he did not do all of this. After three years being with this awful man I had the power to break up with him. I got beaten up very badly, but I was the most proud girl on earth. I still am.
Now I am very stabil and have a wonderful life, but I still am haunted by nightmares about Robbie. I found out he has stolen a lot of money in Belgium and Germany as well. I hope non of the girls there was so naive as I was. The fysical signs of the abuse you can't longer see (except for that hard bone in my cheek and a couple of scars in my face), the money he stole will never be paid back, but ok. after two and a half years being on my own I can live with that fact as well, but the mental abuse (the lies and the effect of the fysical abuse) I can't forget. My new boyfriend is very understanding but he doesn't understand the way I was treated.
Well, long story, short attention... BE AWARE, DON'T BELIEVE HIM. HE WILL TELL YOU HE IS IRISH, HAS A DAUGHTER IN IRELAND WITH A FRIEND OF HIS IRISH FAMILY, HE HAS A RICH FATHER, MAYBE HE WILL SAY HE HAS BORDERLINE OR WHATEVER.
I don't know what to say more. I am glad I do not longer live with him, but he will always be in my life because he took three years of it.
Good luck.
Greetings Jetske (Holland)

That's a weird story. Especially the part about him calling the cops because you 'had run away'. That would be an interesting 911 call. 'Hey cops, my meal ticket has run off. I need you to find her and drag her back.' It doesn't add up.

You'd be amazed what people do when their meal tickets decide to leave.

As I mentioned before on this thread: He's a malignant narcissist. A psychopath. Amazing in hindsight when you've come into contact with one how close you've come to evil in its purest form.

Letting everyone know that he's in Paris now. Same story, too. He conned one woman here out of 500 euros, walked out on bar tabs, borrowed money from people in Irish pubs, and took advantage of everyone he met. He stayed here about a week or two, but I don't know where he's slunk off to now.

Probably tried to get the police to believe she went missing under mysterious circumstances, so they'd do the job of finding her and returning her to him.

It's a pity that people think it's a strange story of me hiding under the bed and him calling for the cops. I don't know why I am explaining right now, but I will because it still hurts. He used to beat me up a lot and he called the police because he thought I was about to commit suicide. I heard the whole conversation of the 911 call. He told them I was crazy and I ran away because of something small. I don't think a face with a bumb as big as half a rugbyball is something small. That phonecall was the stupidest thing he could ever do at that moment, because the police ofcourse took him in when I got out of my hidingplace.
Hope you'll understand my story now.

I for one understand it just fine. It's the giving a crap that I'm struggling with.
So he is in Paris now... Just to make sure everybody is warned should he ever decide to come backto Germany: here is a photo of the wanker I kindly got fom somebody else. Should be detailed enough to recognize him right away.
And if anybody contacts the police again, it may be useful to mention that there is an arrest warrant with Boland's aka van Spaendonck's name on it in the Netherlands.

Dutch Robbie!
Yeah, that's the Dutch Robbie I knew who played the
Reeperbahn bars in Hamburg nearly 10 years ago. He didn't get many gigs. Back then he told everybody he had played guitar for Dee Dee Bridgewater, which nobody believed. He went further downhill over time and developed somewhat of a coke habit. I think I also remember something about a stolen guitar at some point, but I'm not sure. The point is, nobody missed him when he left. Not an unfriendly guy, but his life was going nowhere. He was obviously very troubled, but that doesn't justify such behaviour. It might explain it, but it still doesn't justify it.
Funny, as I was reading this thread, I thought of the Dutch Robbie I knew. Then, when the twist came up that he's Dutch, I was sure it was him. And now, seeing his pic, it is!
So what ever happened to the man? Did the trail go cold?

So he's got a new guitar again, as we can see on the photographs. I wonder whose Takamine vanished into thin air recently... ;-)

Hi, just a bit of information to help one and another and to catch Robbie.
There has been a lawsuit against him in Holland for maltreatment of his ex-girlfriend, trying to kill his girlfriend and to threaten her with the dead. The outcoming was that he had to go to prison and he got some other smaller punishments. He didn't agree with that, so he commenced an appeal. Ofcourse he didn't show up. The judge still finds him guilty, so if he gets in contact with the police in Holland, he will get his punishment. In Holland he has been convicted several times in the last two years. Three, maybe four times (I didn't hear the outcoming of the last lawsuit).
So, again, be aware, especially the girls.
