Love Parade 2007

Anyone planning on going to the Loveparade in Essen this year?

When did the Loveparade move to Essen? I thought it was held in Berlin? I'm shocked... Proper Essen, he?

I am torn between going because I probably wont get another chance and boycotting it because it is not in Berlin this year, which is just wrong (particularly as I broke my neck to make it to Berlin to be there on time for it). Essen doesn't seem like a very large place accommodation and transport there seem a bit of a pain.

well as I'm a vollunteer helper with the German Technical Relief (THW) I'll be there on duty. Not sure where abouts I'll be standing but I'll find out sooner or later when it is planned.

As far as I know it will be held in the north of the town centre and there should be plenty of accommodation available. However, I dread having to travel from Mülheim to Essen and back on that weekend. Well, I've got a choice of going by fast train, commuter train or underground ... Well, we'll see.
To make it quite clear - I was not in favour of moving the Love Parade from Berlin to Essen. But I can feel with those citizens of Berlin who are quite glad to see the back of the "Love Parade" ... ;-)

You're lucky it's only one weekend; we have to put up with the Oktoberfest for nearly three weeks!

SmallTownBoy, I'm lucky indeed. I live in the next town. However, one never knows - some of those guys might want to pop over to our little town after the big event ... ;-(
I wouldn't want to be in your shoes when the "Oktobefest" is on ... ;-)

my husband and i took the weekend off work to have a look at the love parade i have never seen anything like it before. we don´t live to far from the main event so we will have no problem to get there.

what an awsome Lova Parade party that was yesterday. Firstly I had to help out with THW. Was posted on the outside ring of Essen and waiting for Police instructions, if to close the road off or not until round about 9 pm. Afterwards once I refreshed myself I went back to Essen to join in. Unbelievable you had to be there to see it and believe it. Pictures are online under

I was there yesterday too but was not really feeling the 'vibe' (I have an aversion to large crowds and a bad cold at the moment so that might have had something to do with it!) I just went to take some photos of the whole spectacle and ended up staying longer than anticipated - mostly because it was so packed and it was quite hard to get back out of that main area around Berlinerplatz. Left at about 8.30pm and was glad that I resisted the urge to stay longer for Moby because he didn't end up playing afterall. I'll try and post some of the photos from yesterday in the gallery later.
