What is a "Holler"?

A deep fried dessert of some sort

I am at a complete loss here. We went to eat tonight and there was a dessert on the Tageskarte called Holler that included walnut ice cream, strawberries and cream. We aren't usually dessert people, but were really curious about this as we had never seen or heard of it before. So we ordered it.

The good news is that it was tasty...Bad news is I still have no idea what it was. I have pics if no one knows the answer, but too lazy to find the USB cord right now.

Deep fried you say? In batter? Sounds fantastic. Post the picture when you get a chance.

Anything like this?

What was deep fried?

@ Keydeck - Not really

@ Kay - Holler, I have no idea what it is.

I have a relatively new handy and I haven't tried to unload pics on to my computer until tonight and of course its not working, so no pics. I will try to describe.

After ordering the Holler mit eis und erdbeeren we get a plate with 4 deep fried things (best I can do), they kind of looked like young mistletoe branches. The whole thing was battered and fried except for the stalk. So you have to imagine a 4 or 5 bunches of deep fried batter attached to a green mistletoe stalk lookalike coming out as your dessert. Very weird. The batter was good, however I am not sure that the plant thing had any flavor.

As soon as I get this handy connection to the comp working I will post the pics.

If this question is serious, here is a serious answer:
Here in Bavaria the dessert is known as HollerKuchen.
It is simply elderberry blossoms done in a special batter.
Just collect a load of elderberry blossoms in the morning -
just after the night dew has dried off with a bit of morning
sun/air and do them in batter.
Crusoe does it every year. PM her for the recipe. It's yummy!
Good night!

It is a serious question and I appreciate the info. Thanks.

Or Hollerkuacherl (plus various other spellings). Normal ol' pancake batter. Bavarians also make it with beer or white wine as the liquid but I haven't tried that (yet). Yes, it is fingerlickin' good - sounds great with walnut ice cream and strawberries too. Just make sure the flowers are dry when you dunk them in the batter or it will slide off. Holler "champagne" is good too. Either make it yourself (simple procedure involving an armful of Holler flowers, a couple of lemons, some sugar and a bloody big bucket) or look out for Holler/Holunder based aperitifs in restaurants around this time of year - IIRC Vinorant im Alten Hof did a rosé Sekt and Hollersirup (also pretty easy to make yourself) one last year. Lovely.
