What is their equivalent our pay-as-you-go SIMM cards?
I'm ging to Berlin for a month and would prefer to use a pay as you go German number as opposed to my UK phone and come home to a £500 phone bill.
What should I ask for when there?
Cheers

I think they call it prepaid, or pay as you go here too. They'll understand you anyway.

I'd recommend
Simyo for the cheapest pre-paid sim cards. (As recommended by YL&, TT's resident IT and Communications expert)
edit: ignore this! I didn't mean Simyo! I meant
Simply

I'm with
EasyMobile, same group as EasyJet, and can recommend them...similar to Simyo in terms of call costs etc.

If you buy your prepaid sim in a shop, don't forget to bring your passport.
www.Blau.de doesn't require Grundgebuhr or a contract. You pay €10.- or more in advance and choose how you want to reload your credit (automatic or per SMS/email) . Calls are .15 a min and .10 for SMS. Stiftung Warentest says it's the cheapest prepaid going.

Simply is one cent cheaper for calls, once cent more expensive for SMS. calls only cost 4cts to other simply phones.

And EasyMobile is 1 cent cheaper for all networks than blau.de, 4 cents to it's own network, 2 cents more expensive for SMS tho. There is also an option with EasyMobile to have 10 cents to all networks at all times too.

This was an answer to your new topic.
€50 and you got one that is immediately active. And you get a phone to go with it. Will take you about 30min at any phone shop.

Hello all,
does anybody know whether I can find a prepaid SIM card (blau or simyo or whatever cheap one) at gas stations on the highways?
I'll arrive to Germany tomorrow in the afternoon by car and I'd like to get one at the first service area I'll find after the border.
Thank you for any reply.

No you can't.
The cheap ones have to be ordered online (blue simyo etc). The ones by the network & service providers have to be bought at their store. And since you will be arriving on a Sunday, you'll have to wait till Monday to get one.

Yeah as far as I know they are not sold by other stores. Debitel has stores but even then you'd have to wait till Monday.

Actually Blau can be purchased at Saturn as well as a couple of different grocery stores! I got my Blau SIM at a Saturn and have been very happy with it!
Good Luck
