From tomorrow morning, I'll be posting some riveting excerpts.
If you do be fair and make sure we know that it's a spoiler, and don' reveal anything in the title or subtitle. Years of reading and waitng for the climax to be ruined by yourself wouldn't go down to well with myself and a fair few others.

I guess you could simply not read this thread, right? I would think most people wouldn't post spoilers, but if someone does, the easiest way to avoid them would be to avoid threads talking about Harry Potter.
I already made the mistake of watching JK Rowling interviewed by Jonathon Ross and feel I already know too much.

I'm split between mild envy at the ability of some people to be so enthusiastic about something as insignificant as a book, and amazement that people are getting so worked up about possibly not being able to get it on the day it is released.

I pre-ordered my book on Amazon months ago, and now it's looking like we may be out of town on Saturday and not returning till Monday, so I'm on a total media blackout till then, as I'm assuming that once the book is out, the ending will be everywhere...

Why would you read the last chapter first? Kinda defeats the point.
Ha ha sb - I have already warned everyone around me that I will have my nose in a book from delivery on saturday, no matter where I am.
Yeah, I kept my weekend free. I work Saturday morning, but that is okay, because I work at a bookstore so I can just pick up my copy
QUOTE (Keydeck @ Jul 18 2007, 4:55 pm)

Isn't that illegal or somesuch? Why would you want to do so anyway?
Yes, it is illegal. The consequences are very harsh and I am pretty sure they have people to go after people who are stupid enough to post publicly that they received a copy before it was released, especially when they post content spoilers. Bookstores have to sign a contract even that they will lock the books away, even from employees, and that under no circumstances the book can be opened. AFAIK they are also only delivered to the bookstores a day before it is released. If bookstores do not comply with these rules, they have to pay fines. If they do not sign them, they will not receive any of the books. One of my co-workers told me the last time the importer created a little leaflet of what could happen if bookstores do not follow the rules (such as beheading etc.) I guess the importers also thought the rules are way over the top.
All I know is I will not be very happy at work on Friday knowing so many HP books are in the same building as I am but I cannot read it.

Garibaldi - you've been asked not to.

and if I accidentally stumble over one of your summaries before the book is officially and "legally" delivered on Saturday I will be seriously pissed off and will personally have my 6 year old kick you at the next available moment. So la-di-da if you managed to sneak yourself a copy before everyone else, ruin it for me and I will find that whiny, crying drunk girl from last night and plant her in front of your door at 3 am every night for a fortnight until you are as happy about life as I will be if that happens.

HP-lovers who are spoiler-haters may want to avoid copies of Bild today (for some of you, that's a given anyway).
The title page does not, however, contain potential spoilers, but the pages inside and the website may well do.

People, we're talking about Garibaldi here, a man with a strong genetic predisposition to elaborate any shards of truth DNA lying around into a full-blown 16-volume leather-bound reference work. (The phrase "hand-tooled" springs to mind here, I don't know why.) Anyway, if I see any tendencies to post spoilers on his part, it's on with the handcuffs, blindfold and gag and he gets locked up in the cellar until the danger is past. Relax, you're safe.

i am not sure whether the thread question has been answered, but here is my suggestion:
you can reserve your copy at your nearest
hugendubel.
opening times are as follows:
hereyou need to get a kunden login and they will reserve a copy at the shop of your choice.
i know it's all in german but as you don't have to give any bank details but pay when you pick it up, you are not in danger of losing money.
you can also call their phone line and make a reservation:

Would you like it if next time when you play in public that people loudly shout and play a gehto blaster full of crappy rap? You've been asked not to so be polite and fair, take other peoples thoughts into consideration. Obviously if appealing to your polite judgment of fairness isn't enough you must accept the consequences for the forum, yourself and your friends job, which he will lose as I will write to the publishers and describe what has happened. Your choice. Dont fuck with our enjoyment please, we've waited years for this book.

Gids, I think Crusoe's point is that not only is Garibaldi highly unlikely to write anything from the book, but if he did, the chances that it bears any resemblence to the actual content is very unlikely. In fact, I'd take it that there's a very good chance that said gentleman is not even in possession of said tome.

You could always print it out :-) Reading it on the screen does has advantages, you have both hands free to get comfortable/drink/eat, never lose your place, can read in the dark. Guess it depends on how good your screen is though, how heavy/big your laptop is etc.
Mariposa
Jul 19 2007, 11:25 am
No I just do not like reading on a screen.
I could print it out, but for that I would have to buy a new ink cartridge (since I am moving out and abandoning my printer, I don't want to), and that would cost me almost as much as the book (since I get a nice discount). I'd rather have the original book.

I have no problem waiting till Saturday, it's just two days away, I just hope no one spoils the ending for me until then.

The New York Times and Le Parisien have printed spoilers of the book, revealing the end of book 7. Assholes!
I haven't read it and don't want to.
JK Rowling replied:
QUOTE
"I am staggered that American newspapers have decided to publish purported spoilers in the form of reviews in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry’s final destination by themselves, in their own time. I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry’s last adventure for fans."
Scholastic tracked down the leak and published the following comment:
QUOTE
We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.
