SleeplessInMunich aka Dazza aka the (former) Quizmaster at
the Arc has finally decided to get all his hair chopped off, so we cooked up a plot to make a charity event out of it.
The proceeds will be going to the
Children's Mobile Hospice here in Munich.
The idea is, whoever wants to snip off a lock of his hair will pledge to donate an amount to charity for the priviledge.
Whoever bids the most gets to do the final shave down to 5mm.
You can pledge your amount on
the sign-up sheet.
We haven't decided on a venue yet - maybe a beergarden, maybe a pub. We'll see what the weather is like nearer the time. Ideas for venues would be very welcome.
Planetmoni and I will be on hand on the day to make sure people don't cut off *too* much, just down to a shave-able length (about 2cm); we'll also be collecting the hair so that Dazza has something to show his grandchildren

So please sign-up on the sheet so that we can collect plenty of money for the charity, and give Dazza a new look for the summer.

I love things for a good cause, will make it there to snip a lock if I can.

If I can afford to eat a schnitzel as big as somebody's head then I will happily donate to a good cause like this.
However I shan't be there for the event, since I'll be
eating a schnitzel as big as somebody's head.

Only joking...Yes I have been persauded to and do consent to them cutting off my hair. Even though I have had long hair for about 18 years now, I guess its time for a change...

So even if you can't make it and just want to donate you can have somebody perform a snip in your place.

He'll probably also have a better chance at having grandchildren at all after the hair-cutting experience. Our Dazza will be lookin all proper n' all.

I guess your chest and back hair could be considered collector´s items...
Ah! Be careful now SiM. I've heard a rumour going around that there are a couple of ladies outbidding each other on who gets to shave your balls.

why not donate it to Cancer Society for a wig for some poor person?
Men have great hair for that its long and normally never colour treated.

I can just see it now.
Doctor: "Yes, your hair will most likely fall out as a result of the treatment for the cancer. However, I have good news and bad news."
Patient: "What's the good news?"
Doctor: "The kind folks over at TT have organised a charity event and we will soon have a wig of long flowing hair for you to wear".
Patient: "That sounds great, what's the bad news?"
Doctor: "You're gonna be a ginga."

Is it 25cm long or more? I seem to remember (from hockeywidow's posts on the subject, a long time ago) that 25cm/10'' was the minimum length.

well, we've 86€ for charity so far
currently planetmoni is winning the bidding to do the final shave
we could do with some more sign-ups, though
Has Toytown done many charity events? If not, start a new thread giving TTers the chance to help out even if they dont know any of the people involved in this thread. I'm sure loads of people would like to do someyhing for any charity.
I don't know what the childrens mobile hospice is. I thought its where your child takes its 'mobile' to when its broken!
Maybe put a few lines in the actual post to tell us about it. And why you chose it.

good points, ian, thnx
re: the charity, Sleepless
started a thread asking for suggestions, and picked one of the charities posted on there. he wanted to give the money to a local children's charity (probably partly because he has 2 kiddies of his own, and cos deep down he's a big softie).
if people want to donate to the charity independently of this, then I guess we can find a way - just pm me or Sleepless and we'll figure it out.
ínformation about the charity is
here (but it's only in German, soz)

You may also want to consider altering the thread title. I read it and thought that the money was being raised for him.
As someone who once had his head shaved for charity, may I say that stopping before you get to the skin is cheating. Come on, man, it's summer. Take it all off. Women love bald dudes.

Topsy
Jun 4 2007, 3:19 pm
when he gets back from his vacation we'll organise a "before" piccie, sure
will have a think about the thread title if it is confusing, no prob
Someone will also have to be nominated as the official photographer to make sure we can all see the action.

Thanks for all the pledges so far and a number of people that aren't on TT have promised to come along and contribute as well.
You can still donate even if you can't make it. We must still arrange some way of collecting the money but any cash handed in on the day will be noted and I'll post a screen shot of the bank transfer to the charity so that you can see where your money has gone.

the good thing about Ryan's is that we can do it outside or in - so it doesn't matter if it's tipping it down (e.g. like it is now

@keydeck - we already checked with Vernon, he's fine with it

stunned silence on the thread, no doubt in response to the "before" pictures of dazza's luscious locks...

anyway, we've plumped for a definite time and place:
Time: 6pm onwards
Location: Ryan's Muddy Boot (near Rotkreuzplatz U-Bahn)
the charity are all excited about it, I got an email from them and they think it's a great idea
SiM should be posting info soon for people who can't make it on the day, but want to donate to the charity anyway.
