With the organisation of the "Munich Chili Cookoff" well under way, I was wondering whether for the sweet toothed amongst you anyone would be interested in a "Cookie Chill Out"
Run along the same lines as the Chili Cookoff we would ask you to bake a batch of cookies and bring them along to be judged.
Personally I'm thinking this would make a nice addition to our existing contest.
Let me know what you think...
Cheers

Great idea, I had a vague notion of cupcakes, pies or cakes myself but cookies work just as well.

I'm sure the Cookie in post 4 would happily volunteer to be a taste-tester. Although I don't think she'd be a good judge as she eats everything. She might make a good mascot though!

Yeah, she definitely wouldn't make a good judge.
Organiser: "Here Cookie, try this one, it's from contestant #1 and has cinnamon in it"
Cookie: "Mmmm, yummy, gimme food, mmmm, that's my favourite one in the whole world!"
Organiser: "Eh ok, here you go, this one is from contestant #2 and has an orangy edge to the flavour"
Cookie: "Mmmm, yummy, gimme food, mmmm, that's my favourite one in the whole world!"
Organiser: "Odd. Fair enough but you need to grade them with points out of ten. This one is from contestant #3. They used coconut"
Cookie: "Mmmm, yummy, gimme food, mmmm, that's my favourite one in the whole world!"
Organiser: "Eh, this isn't really working out. Lets try this chocolate chip one from contestant #4"
Cookie: "Mmmm, yummy, gimme food, mmmm, that's my...mmrff"
Cookie's mom: "Put down the cookie and step away from my dog!"
Cookie: "Woof, I wanna eat"

Well, it sounds for definite that one of Munichs residents would think it to be a good idea

Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. On the afternoon of the 14th of July, at the Zar Bar, there will be an open slot for a Cookie cookoff. I will include the details for this on the wesite for the Chili Cookoff (
www.chilicookoff.de) and we will see what the response is.
If we only have 3 contestants then you'll all get prizes. :-)

How many cookies (of each kind) are we expected to supply? Or, to make things less regulated, how many judges are there?

I would like to come along with a few cookies as well. Do we have to sing sign up somewhere?
Edit: hmm now I see what da ya mean Frau HuRuape. Well, I guess my chances of winning something by singing are far slimmer than the chances of winning something by cooking.

Now you want a singing contest too??
I could volunteer to be a taster, no good as a cook I'm afraid. My cookery class hasn't got around to the complexities of cookies yet.
Try Lurker Mark as a judge; he'd be no better than that dog I suspect:
#1: needs more chili
#2: needs more chili
#3: needs more chili
etc

Hi Panama, no need to sign up...Just turn up with a bucket load of Cookies. There will be 5 Judges and a lot of hungry mouths. A "normal Batch of cookies is 12...but if you want to make more then I am sure the crowd would be very happy.
Maybe now would be just as good a time to lay down some basic rules.
5 Euros per entry. Winner takes all. Second and Third will have consolation prizes. Biggest Cookie will get a prize too. (just to throw a bit of diversity in)
Judging will be based on... 1)Colour (With a u... 'cause I'm English) 2) Taste 3) Chew factor
Bought cookies will be disqualified, (just in case anyone thinks of trying that) and fed to the crowd.
Cookie the dog will get a prize for turning up...just for looking cute. Other than that we'll wing it.

@ruapehu
Your post (the Lurker Mark part) really made me laugh! Has anyone ever actually seen him eat anything other than curry or drink anything else apart from beer for that matter? Don't know if his stomach could cope with sweet things (chili or not).

well, he did come to the Moroccan evening, and of course needed his meal spiced up. Some of us were talking about holding a French meal sometime, but L.M. was not to be held to a promise not to ask for his nouvelle cuisine to be spiced up..can you imagine the shame and embarrassment!

Are these different factors to be judged in that order of importance, or all equally?
Can they be any type of biscuit? Any ingredients?

We shall be entering this too. Hot chili and sweet cookies. I will almost feel like I am at home in the South.

The Date is the 14th of July @ The Zar Bar...Same as for the Chilicookoff (
www.chilicookoff.de )
As for the order of importance, no no order. We are basically looking for the best cookie of the day.
If you think your Date and Nut Shortbread can compete against a Double Choc Chip with Caramel Cookie then go for it. We will be very fair about this.
Come along and Enjoy.

Do we have to pay the registration fee for each different type of cookie or just once per person?
UrbanAngel
Jun 15 2007, 9:47 am
Oh well, can't make it on 14th then since I'm not in Germany

I *could* give my secret recipe to someone who wants to try, but only if that person has already sampled them before and knows how they should taste like!

I think this year it would be fair to say one fee per person rather then per type of cookie. As this is the first year we are learning what works and what we will have to change.
