Uncle Nick
To all the mums and dads out there my four year old nephew is here please let me know which are the best pools for small children. Also does anyone know of any playgrounds in Haidhausen?
Carm
there is a neat playground on Elsässerstr- just up the road from Escobar.

Max-Weber Platz has a great playground and also close to the HBK (with babysitting!) for afters.

Nordbad is great for kids. My side of town I like Sudbad and Schyrenbad (a fully outdoor facility).

All the swimming pools are listed here!

Westbad is pretty good for small kids as well.

Phönixbad in Ottobrunn:

They have 2 splash pools for the really small and a non-swimmer pool... also a lap pool, diving pool, jacuzzi, sauna, etc.

Schyrenbad is awesome. The water is warm and they have a slide for the kids. I think there is even a kids area, but alas its an outdoor facility therefore dependant on the weather. Südbad is cool too as there are two pools: a smaller one for children and a larger one for swimmers and those that can handle a tad bit deeper waters.

I went to Schyrenbad nearly every afternoon during last year´s beautiful summer. I guess I won´t be going this week though...

Dantebad is great for all age groups. smile.gif

There are at least two little English speaking boys at Nordbad today (5 years old) smile.gif

If you are willing to head just a little out of town, Pullach has a great pool complex for families. There is the main 25 metre pool, which uses ozone to clean it, so there's less chlorine in the water. There's the learning pool which is warmer and at deepest about 1.2metres. There's the splash pool, for toddlers and babies, which is only a few centimetres deep. There's a hot tub too. There's the outdoor pool, with things like a waterfall, jet bubbles and a slip stream that you can travel around in a circle, pushed by the water. And there's another little splash area outside that's open on warm days. And a link to the German website.

Pullach's pool is good for kids i agree with Showem also the water is a bit warmer there.
Or you can go across the river to Gruenwald that pool is full of kids and then after head across the freizeitpark to CocoLoco (cool indoor playground).
Kat
What I'd like to find is a pool that isn't child-friendly. Sorry kiddies, but I'd really love a pool I could do some laps in without getting splashed and jostled by a bunch of screaming mini-hooligans.
Uncle Nick
@Kat: so go start a thread about child-free swimming pools or better still go over to the vent thread if you want to rant on about it! If you're not interested in kids what are you doing on the Munich Family Life thread???

The Michaelibad has an awesome kiddie area in their outdoor part: big sandy area with tables and a couple of water pumps; a very shallow splashy area for the under 5's; and a deeper and larger pool with a slide for kids who can swim/are a bit bigger.

Another vote for the Phönixbad in Ottobrunn - it has 2 extremely shallow play pools, a learning pool with very warm water, an "adventure" pool half indoors and half outdoors, also with warm water; the "adventure" pool also has a waterfall, loungers in the water with massage jets, and a big curly slide.

And, for people like Kat, there is also a "proper" pool with cooler water for doing "serious swimming", as well a separate diving pool, jacuzzi and sauna, like Austrami said.

Great place to go in all weathers - plenty of space outside, as well as free loungers and sunshades!

Hi there,

We're going to be moving to Munich in a few weeks and just wondered if anyone can recommend any child-friendly swimming pools in Munich? We're going to be living in Berg-am-Laim so anything over that side of the city would be great.

Thanks.
potbelly
If your in Berg am Liam, then the best bet is Michaelibad . Has several outdoor pools for various ages with a large open grass area . Packed at weekends.

Its a great pool - but very very busy in school hols and finding your own bit of water can be a mission! Go early and leave early and you won't have a problem By lunch time it starts to seriously fill up ...
doradoblue
try the ungererbad in schwabing. Pools for every age group.

Any suggestions on Swimming pool facilities for children below 1 year?Is it necessary for the parent accompanying the child should know how to swim...

Nordbad has a small toddler pool, it looks to be about 1m deep always with parents and kids together. Phoenixbad in Ottobrun also has a separate small pool as well...
Sarah(Mummy!)
I tend to take my tot to the Michaelibad and the Phonix Bad but for babies and tots, the Phonix Bad in Ottobrunn is by far the best, with very warm water. With a baby , you wouldn't need to be a swimmer yourself as the 2 baby pools and learning to swim pool are all sitting or standing warer height.

You should start to learn now. The baby will become a toddler fast and you must set the example and be prepared to jump in if your toddler falls in the deep end.

Below is the thread for adult swimming lessons in Munich.
