Where to buy or order them for delivery

i know there is another thread about bagels in the munich lifestyle section, but it is specific to Munich.

i miss bagels. i had one for breakfast every day i was in the u.s. on vacation (okay one day i had bacon & eggs. the other days, bagel with cream cheese).
now i live in mannheim & the bagel/us pastry-type shop Caffeegesellschaft was closed the last time I was there. they said they would open up again ASAP, but their website leads to nirvana and their telephone is busy.

does anyone have an ideas where i could order some to get them delivered to me at home or where in the Rhein-Neckar Dreieck (MA, HD) I could buy some. i would like to celebrate me being taken on permanently at work with an American-style alternative-type of breakfast and I would love to put bagels on the plate.

They have been cropping up at Kaufland north of Munich, the ready-to-bake kind. I would suggest taking a look around your local Tengelmann, they were the first to stock scones as well.
Elfenstar
lucky me. there is a Tengelmann in the Schwetzingervorstadt, so in my neighborhood.

They also have some really good ones at Rewe, I forgot the brand but it is a pack of three, ready to be toasted. Yum! They are not plain but with sesame and poppyseed I think, not sure if you like that.

Edit: I think the brand might be Glockenbäckerei.

I wish I could order good bagel per post. dry.gif

I have also missed bagels and recently discovered them at Rewe. Not all seem to stock them so search around. It's a 3-pack. New York style. Fresh-tasting.

yeah i recently bought tenglemann here in freising out of bagels. They haven't restocked sad.gif

Well tomorrow is the beginning of 'American Week' at Lidl and they'll have bagels...not sure if they are any good but I plan on trying them out.

If you are really craving bagels, you can order from Bagel Brothers. They are great! and they have about 10 different kinds. 36 Bagels cost 22,90 € -- they also have other options for packages of bagels and muffins. Every time I have ordered from them I have got the bagels the next day by 12pm. I think they have different delivery options now as well.

@Ana, Thanks soooo much. I will give them a try.
Elfenstar
here! here! THANK YOU for that info Ana. That's what TT is all about biggrin.gif

Looks like they also have locations in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Bonn, Leipzig, Hannover, Oldenburg & Lübeck. Lucky you.
ana
you're welcome smile.gif i was also sooo happy when i discovered their website as you can't find bagels in stuttgart and sometimes nothing else will do smile.gif
now thanks to you lot i'm having a bagel craving wink.gif i'll have to order some myself...

they say fresh delivery to certain cities. How do the bagels come when you don't live in one of those towns? In frozen bags? I'm assuming they deliver cross germany.

found the answer to all my questions when I ordered the bagels and talked to the dude on the phone! Hopefully will have bagels as of tomorrow morning smile.gif

They do deliver across Germany. It seems the bagels will come ready to freeze two bagels in a bag (I think). You have to order before eleven to get next day delivery, however I seem to have caught them on a day they were baking later. I should be getting thirty-six bagels tomorrow before twelve. The bill for the bagels comes with the delivery and you then have a week to transfer the money.

I will hopefully let you guys know how it all went tomorrow when I'm having a bagel for lunch. I will also let you know what I think of these bagels whether you want my opinion or not biggrin.gif

thanks!

HI

There is a great place for bagels called Deli star. They have locations on Amalienstr. 40 or Kaulbachst. 41 or Dachauerstr. 25a. They have tons of american style bagels and fresh cream cheeses!!! I also love their LOX sandwich with tomato and lettace too.
I bought some for a hostess gift for friends in the Frankfurt area ( that can't get them) and they gave me frozen bagels so they would be fresh the next day. Enjoy!!!

And?

I liked the bagels. The onion ones were the best yet. You definitely can not beat the service. Great. They did not come in ready to freeze bags but ziplock bags did the treat for me. two in a bag and the whole lot minus three went into the freezer. Really enjoyed the bagels this morning.

I just bought some Lenders Bagels today. I love a good bagel and also had one every day before classes in college from the local shop. Lenders don't cut it. Basically, packaged bagels suck.

The best bagels I've had in Europe were in Prague in the old town. There is a little shop that sells them in the old town (yeah, I know it's big). The cream cheese leaves something to be desired though.

Where I live in der Oberpfalz, nobody knows what a bagel is. They know their red hair dye though! wink.gif

I just had bagels from Kaufland for breakfast, warmed up in the oven over a bowl of water. The insides were soft and light, not solid as you sometimes get them, the crust was crunchy and covered with sesame. I have had worse in the US.

since this is a life in germany thread, it would be great if you put your location & where these streets are (i know cause i lived in munich, but not everyone else in germany does). thx.

also, Star Coffee in Mannheim says they have bagels to go. i haven't tried them, but they said they're €1,90 a piece.

sounds like the delivery service mentioned here is cheaper at around .70 cent per bagel. but 36 bagels is quite a lot. i would have to divide them up among friends. since my freezer isn't big enough for that many bagels.

Aldi will have bagels starting on June 21st during their Typisch Amerika! week. Not sure if they are any good, but they will be €1.39 for four of them and they will have plain and sesame. Just a heads-up.

I live in Magdeburg, and "Backshop" has bagels. Backshop is a chain, a self-service bakery thingy that is a cross between a cafe, a self-service restaurant and a chain bakery shop. Set up reminds me of McD's. They should have outlets in other cities too.
Mariposa
Yeah, the Back Factory (a self-service bakery) here has bagels too.

where did you get them delivered? did you have to be at home? i might share a delivery with folks from work, so more than likely I'll get them delivered here, if possible (if they let me).
iain
basically you can get them delivered anywhere. I paid the 6.90 extra for the delivery by TNT because that delivery service is off the hook. Last time they delivered to me they phoned me to see if I was at home (which I wasn't) they came and found me in town and gave me the packet. awesome. mind you that was only a small electronic device and I didn't mind carrying it with me. but the delivery service will have your number and will probably try and phone you before actually delivering the bagels. Just give them your work address and it should be fine.
Elfenstar
i had them delivered to my work address. the guy knocked on my office door and popped in with a huge box of bagels. mmm, they look so good, but i cannot eat one at work, yet. i split the delivery with a colleague, but also, no freezer bags. they had no cinnamon raisin and i guess they won't have any for awhile cause I said i could wait if they were temporarily out of them. yummy.
Elfenstar
OMG - i ordered a bagel with cream cheese from Star Cofffee in HD. Well, it was pre-prepared and pre-packed. So what did they do? They unwrapped it and put it in the toaster oven! Where is that head-shaking emoticon?
iain
thats hilarious biggrin.gif I'm sorry for the crime committed against the bagel though. ohmy.gif
