Full English breakfasts in Hamburg

Tips on where to get one

On Sunday a friend woke me up around midday and suggested we go for an English breakfast. Nice idea but where?!

I know Finnegans does a simple version (Irish Breakfast), but the smell of stale beer and smoke and eating in the dark can be a little overpowering early morning.

I've tried the Goldbekkers "Fit for the Queen" breakfast which is a nice effort. (Not so sure about the gherkin decoration but points for trying anyway)

That's it! Just the two!

I and I'm sure plenty of others here would be thrilled to hear your tips and advice regarding:

Who (and where!) is the best English breakfast in Hamburg served??

Thanks
debbyinhamburg
At my house (assuming I manage not to set the kitchen on fire frying bacon). But you won't all fit round the table :-(
Don't any of the hotels offer a decent cooked breakfast?

If you like the buffet brunch style try The Alex on the Alster on a Sunday morning. I think its about 12/14 Euro(?) and all you can eat. Its not really "English" breakfast, but they have a really nice selection and if you're lucky you can sit by the window with a nice view of the lake. Gets very busy.

Do what i did and get to know your cafe owner. He took his basic Strammer max and with my help has now turned it into a Full English Breakfast. fried bread , black pudding, the lot. I think he secretly eats it himself.

Thanks Debbie for that shy invitation! We will all be around and I thought I'd ask the Munich lot to join us at your place!

Mat, buffets are fine and plenty but I am specifically talking about the full works, tea and orange juice. Can't see Alex offering fried tomato, fried bread, baked beans, fried mushrooms, even black pudding (good thinking Norfolk Lad) with the often imitated, never achieved bacon and eggs.

Where can one wander in and order a good healthy, back-on-yer-feet breakfast in Hamburg??

Lets have your tips people! Thanks

OOOO.K. - have done some research.
Thing is, you only need to now which people to ask.

And for that in Hamburg there's nothing better than the St.Pauli Fanforum - they've never failed giving me the information I needed.
What Toytown is in Munich, that's St. Pauli fans in Hamburg - just more of them biggrin.gif

After only 2 hours they came up with:

Die Kogge - Rock'n'Roll Hotel und Hafenbar. A girl from the Fanclub Arschrock which I know (and she and her bf usually know all the good places in St. Pauli) has recommended that.

Recommended by 2 people:
Bar Centrale at Clemens-Schultz-Str. 66 in St. Pauli (there's also one in Gertigstraße, but not with English breakfast I guess).
Called them for confirmation: they have full English breakfast on Sundays from 11 a.m. - cooked by an Englishman!

Café September opposite to Heiligengeistfeld - Schanzenviertel/St.Pauli - have something for breakfast called "very British":

QUOTE
7) Very British
Baked Beans mit Tomatensauce, 2 Spiegeleier, Bacon, Bratwürstchen, Senf, Ketchup, dazu Toast und Orangenmarmelade EURO 7,20

The German/English speaking Stammtisch took place there a few times - maybe somebody tasted this breakfast??

Also mentioned but possibly not an up-to-date info: Fritz Bauch Szenekneipe at Schanzenviertel served English Breakfast two years ago - don't know if they still do.

Have not been to any of these for breakfast, but maybe you wanna give it a try - and let us know how it was wink.gif

The "Kogge" seemed pretty cool to me. And Bar Centrale is also a sportsbar, have heard good things about it before.

anyone up for breakfast today?
Mad dog
Wow @Hammonia -Good research!!

Now stage 2 of the research programm would be to eat at all the resaturants concerned! I shall dig up this thread one Sunday morning when the question arises again!

Mean time, anyone who is out and about and discovers other potential, just let us know!

Still waiting for our gourmet critic to return...?!?!
Sounds like the ideal thing but what happened to the tester?

Perhaps he was the guy exchanging mails with Hammonia and they are now having breakfast in bed!

When I wrote "we" I was talking about my fiancé and me - if I have breakfast in bed then only with him tongue.gif

btw - why don't you go and test yourself? Do you need everything to be served on a plate?
I gave you all the recommendations I received (from people who have actually been there), now you don't even TRY yourself, but wait for others (even MORE others) to check it out for you?
Hope you can at least chew yourself biggrin.gif

Well, then it was only coincidence. I had mailed the Bar Centrale to ask if they still do the breakfast, and got a mail from the guy who makes the breakfast. Then I replied to him that I would post a recommendation here on Toytown, the same day you registered and posted two or three times about Bar Centrale - looked a bit like an advert to me wink.gif

Anyway, Mat and I will try it today, hope it is as good as you guys say smile.gif
Expat Mat

We didn't have breakfast in bed today. We went to Bar Centrale in St Pauli and found the English breaky was great. Made by Leon, a guy from Leeds (don't hold that against him!)

It was 6.50 and had all the usual; 2 sausages, baked beans, bacon (English style), tomato, toast and 2 fried eggs. Will deffo go back.

Really intresting place if you like music or football. Lots of pics of Leon with various famous musicians and signed goalie gloves attached to the ceiling.

Hmm - sounds as if my son would also be interested - he likes the English breakfasts when we go over to UK for a Steeleye concert or similar.

On other hand neither of us are into football...
