Does anyone know anywhere in Munich that sells Marmite? The further south the better as I live in Starnberg!

You can get Marmite in Kaufhof, but I have only seen small jars. Off to Scotland tomorrow, I can bring back a big jar for you if you want.

Try TT's British & American foods in Munich page.

According to that document you can get marmite in Hertie, at the Australian Shop or "Hong Kong" in Rosenheimer Metro shopping center, or online from one of the foods websites listed.

I just saw some yesterday at the Muenchener Freiheit Karstadt. It's over near the canned tuna, oysters etc. (don't ask me why)...Happy shopping!

Marche Saigon, Fraunhoferstr. 6 has Marmite. U2 Fraunhoferstr. - PG Tips tea bags too.

Go to Hertie at the main station. They have it in stock (it is next to all the US stuff for some reason).

marmite is just a vegemite wannabe

bollox.

marmite (1902) is the original. vegemite (1922) is a cheap imitation. doesn't even look right.

They also sell marmite at the Asian shop in Hauptbahnhof, and it's likely a hell of a lot cheaper than at Hertie. That shop is great - they've got tahina, wasabe peas, Patak's and other good stuff.

Hertie used to charge me a small fortune for the tiiny (50g?) Jars...

Pomeroy & Winterbottom sell 500g jars (the HUGE ones) for about 15euro

This is about 10UKP.. A 500g in Sainsbury's is about 4quid.. so its just over twice as expensive...

the 57g ones are 74p in Sainsburys which is about 1 euro.. and hertie charged me about 5 euros for that... 5 times as much!

I actually think the PW deal is ok...

You can buy it online from the British/American food shop.

Paul - Don't run out of Marmite man - it's not worth it. If you get really desperate, the Marmite Abuse Group can come and help you out.

Just get someone from home to send you some over, it might work out a bit cheaper. I've only got to wait until the beginning of May for my next batch to be brought over! Still got a fair bit left of this one too...

It's quite common to find Marmite in the Asian foodstores, e.g. Hong Kong opposite the City Hilton on Rosenheimerstrasse

If I ever get stuck, the small indian food shops near Hauptbahnhof are great for that sort of thing. They even have Sarsons vinegar, pg tips and Vimpto.

Hertie will charge an arm and a leg.

Chalk this up to my American ignorance, but could someone please explain what, exactly, Marmite & Vegemite are? Besides the "vegemite sandwich" from Men at Work- I have no real knowledge of either...

Thanks!

It's a spread made out of yeast extract. It's an acquired taste. I rather like it (vegemite that is - never tried marmite). The trick is, it has to be spread on really, really thin. Most Americans who've tried it think it's disgusting, because they've piled it on like peanut butter.

Marmite is ONLY for the perverts amongst us wink.gif

Marmite is pure unadulterated vileness. Evil brown paste of the devil

Does that mean that you won't be willing to lick it off of Sin?

There's an Asian shop (don't remember name) just outside Hohenzollerplatz that sells Marmite in 125 g jars for 4.80. Just next to the park which is outside the station.
