V-Bird - Cheapo flights Munich - Northern England

Airline despair - A Warning!

I wanted to bring to everyones attention a little known airline called V-bird that flies really cheaply to manchester via a little airport near Düsseldorf from Munich. Please don't be fooled by the low prices, this airline is one big disaster. I apologise if you've had great flights with them but I feel the Munich public should know. We travelled back to the UK last week and got delayed 9 hours on the way there and they cancelled the flight on the way home, so we had to get an hour long taxi drive to the main Düsseldorf airport to get a last minute dba flight back to munich. The customer service was terrible, and the airplanes were not their own and old and falling apart. mad.gif

So if you're looking for a cheap flight to the north I would suggest that for your own sanity you avoid V-Bird, it tried very hard to ruin our holiday.

I have used them several time, without any hassle..

You must have picked a bad day..

I do admit I was very tempted. The rates they offer are excellent, but in the end the flight times didn't match and our next flight to old Blighty will again be with Lufthansa - who occasionally can also pull off customer service that sucks...

i think i had friends on that same cancelled flight, Anne, was it on saturday? they too got a taxi to another airport and a last minute flight home at 10pm, after arriving at niederrhein at 2pm or something. they said that the customer service did the best they could under the circumstanes, though.

mates of mine have been variously delayed 6-9 hours on this trip, in the last couple of weeks. i think its ok if you don't mind taking a wee risk of delay, but otherwise tis not worth the hassle.

i've flown with them a few times and had no problems bar my last flight which was a complete disaster. flight out of munich was so late leaving that we missed the connection in niederrhein. had to stay overnight there. the flight the next day was delayed too.

but in all fairness, the customer service was good. they paid for food and drinks in the airport whilst waiting for the delayed flight, taxis to the hotel in niederrhein. hotel accomm and breakfast, taxis back to airport and then, the other week i got this email to say i had 3 flight vouchers (one for each traveller), each voucher worth 25 euros. no one had mentioned i would get these so it was a bit of a plus, especially as the vouchers total more than the cost of the original flight smile.gif

I have used vbird from nierderrhein to munich about 20 times now and so far everything has been okay. The planes have been good and the maximum delay has only been an hour. I have even had my free flights as I have used them so much. Think it is a chance you have to take if you want to travel cheaply.

Hope I haven't cursed my next trip as I have a date with a mass in the Hacker tent two hours after I land !!! biggrin.gif
