St. Pauli in München

I noticed that the fish market is building up at Sendlingertor this year. Having only been to the real thing once, I'm not really sure if this would be like Oktoberfest in Hamburg, but I know people who make a point to go every year (ok, two of them are from Hamburg originally).

They have Fish-Semmel, with crawfishy things or "Bismarckhering" or you can get fish and chips thrown down the lighthouse chute. Apparently the Fishmarket mascot "BUTTJE" will be running around adding to the atmosphere of the market people flogging their wares at passers by.

The fishmarket in Hamburg is over 300 years old but is still a "thing to see" and is worth a look in Munich as well.

And yes, you can get a t-shirt there that says "Hamburger Fischmarkt." I did, tee hee.

I liked the event much better when it was over on the St-Jakobs-Platz, but it's fun at Sendlinger Tor, too.

Does anyone know the hours...and whether they operate on Sundays..as was the original idea, I take it.

This year the Hamburger Fischmarkt will also be in Laim at the Laimer Anger (near Detterbeck, Agnes-Bernauer Str. 89) between 25th May and 3rd June. On the first day beer is free until the first barrel runs out (so forget queuing politely) and there will also be free Matjes herrings.

If I remember rightly they also sell large amounts of beer at the market...a venue for Tuesday drinks?
also for the fish haters the place doesnt smell of fish and I am not actually sure if any stall even sells fresh wet fish, likely they do, but we normally end up buying loads of cheese (stall does baskets of the stuff, big mix of all sorts)
