Attacked by a buzzard whilst jogging

Has anyone else here experienced similar?

Warning to any fellow joggers, beware of Buzzards who may have nests nearby to your jogging route. Have been 'warned' 3 times now by buzzard on one of the routes i use to jog and the last one was enough to make me take it seriously so will now be using another route! Bet Paula Radcliffe never had this problem!
Has anyone else out there had this problem?

Attacked by buzzards?! wacko.gif Course you have sweetheart!
Rosie from the Rhine
Ha, cheers for the support mate, guess i can count you out of the campaign to make 'jogging a buzzard free zone'!! rolleyes.gif
MajorBummer
Well if you were a buzzard and you by chance had your nest nearby and one of those smelly joggers came by, what would you do?
Pirulero
I thought most species of buzzards nested on clif-faces?
bluedave
Didn't even know that buzzards existed in Germany/ Europe?
MajorBummer
There are buzzards living in the English Garden, I kid you not. I have seen them. Hopefully Arshoo's snake has made it there too by now and didn't get run over or something.

Were you attacked or warned??

You can find them in Britain as well.
Grinner
Dave, do you drive to work with your eyes shut?

There are millions of the feckers.. and no, buzzards do not nest on cliffs, usually. They prefer trees
Wheel
Buzzards, not vultures. Easy mistake if you watched westerns. Americans call vultures buzzards and buzzards hawks. Confusing.
Pirulero
Just the ones in Gibraltar then...they're migratory in a big way to, so of course they're in Europe...
bluedave
Ahhh dats what buzzards are . . . , yup i've seen loads of them round here but i thought they were Kestrels or somesuch.

A buzzard to me was always something huge like a Vulture.

How do Buzzards warn? Do they drop leaflets, or maybe they put up signs...?
MajorBummer
Jays imitate the sound of buzzards when they get bored to piss off the other birds . wub.gif

biggrin.gif Dunno, but hopefully we're about to find out. I'm more curious about how they attack though...

Mrs Peel
been swooped by seagulls at the seaside in Cornwall many times - they love scaring the tourists...esp if you've got chips!
Rosie from the Rhine
Well glad we've worked out the difference between buzzards, vultures and seagulls! Ha no said buzzard did not drop a leaflet to warn me (mind you just as well as i can't read German, too many long words!) And no i wasn't eating chips whilst running at the time and I actually thought i was a fair distance from the trees where the nest must be.
I was not attacked thankfully as when i came back and went on the internet to search if any attacks have been recorded they have and they don't sound like much fun. The buzzard swoops down at you from behind, so as you are running and not looking behind or up you don't realise they are on the way until either they attack you using their beaks or talons (no apparently no recordings of them using a handbag!) or they swoop very close to you then climb up high leaving you in no mistake that they are there and could easily be getting ready to swoop back and attack!
I have therefore decided that i am happy with the top/back of my head and will keep away!
Know what you mean about Cornwall and seagulls though, St Ives being really bad. rolleyes.gif

As soon as the sun comes out they start circling here. In good conditions I have had buzzards sharing a thermal at my wing tips...

Kestrels are smaller.
