Hi everyone. Its that time of year when bbq and oysters is my usual treat with friends. Only problem is I'm new to this area so where can I find fresh oysters?

Someone told me Luxembourg or Holland but the drive is 4-5 hrs. I'm willling to drive 2 hrs the most just to have some oyster so if anyone can guide me, I appreciate it.

Why drive when you can fly? wink.gif

Make a call to Die Coast brasserie & oyster bar at the Radisson Hotel in Frankfurt and ask them where they get theirs from or if you could buy some from them.

Franklinstrasse 65

Lots of other restaurants in Frankfurt serve them too so if you've no other luck here just make a few phone calls.

I can highly recommend Edelfisch in Frankfurt-Griesheim. Excellent quality and fantastic selection of seafood, quite dear though. Go on their cash & carry Mondays (first Monday of the month) and you’ll get a 15% discount on most produce.

They’re also great for fresh pasta, top-quality meat, exotic fruit and exquisite cheese.

Too late. Oysters only in months with "R" in them. Right now is their breeding season.

For what it's worth: last Friday I tried some oysters at Karstadt Zeil. 9 Euro at the bar in the basement for 6 reasonably big oysters.
I think they are also for sale at their seafood counter, no idea of the price though.

There used to be a big fish market round the back of the Messe some years back but that moved due to the redevelopment of that area. It was the major one for Germany so it must still be around. Try:

Fisch-Brenner
Spohrstraße 17a
Frankfurt am Main, HES 60318
Tel: +49 69 59 0819

or:

Fischmarkt
Hasengasse 5-7 (I believe this is the basement of the Kleinmarkthalle)

Metro has them ... box-packed and shipped down from Sylt.

We had them for Christmas/New Years with champagne.

They were excellent ... directly comparable to Blue Points.
