HIV tests and chest x-rays

Are these required for a visa to Germany?

I wanted to know if I will be required to take an HIV test and have a Chest X-Ray performed as a part of my application to extend my trip to six months. I did this for Australia, I know, a totally different place, but is this required in Germany?

sometimes, the first time I lived here I needed both, the second time I moved here not. Check with your KVR worker to be sure. If they require it, they will give you the forms to get filled out.

Chest xrays and HIV tests???
Were "Buffy the Vampire slayer wannabees" not using clean stakes in the late 90's ?
MonksTown
Germany does demand chest X Rays from certain non EU Citizens primarily due to the high incidence of TB in Russia and Ukraine
and the potentil ublic health risk that poses as it is brought into Germany by migrants.

I am a US citizen and had to take a TB test (the stick test, not a chest x-ray) and an HIV test for an Aufenthaltserlaubnis (temporary residence permit) in 2001. No idea if they're still requiring it.
PES
I had to too in 1997.
Sari
I wasn't asked for either.

I think you're taking this whole thing too seriously. You want to come here for 6 months, you're just a tourist and shouldn't need all these checks. You yourself have posted on Tricks for extending a 90 day non-EU tourist visa thread, where Darkknight says that if you want to extend your stay past 6 months, you just need to prove you have enough money, a place to stay and a bank account. I don't know if he's right, but you're asking people in the forum to begin with, so advice like he provided is probably the best you're going to get. You should really contact the German authorities about this.

I am also a U.S. citizen and came here in 2001 - but DID NOT need these tests.
And never heard of anyone else needing them either.

I had to have a chest X-Ray when teaching in 1998 due to the TB risk for the kids at school but when I moved here in 2001 I didn't.

See, everyone had a different experience, so, you have to go to your nearest KVR, and let them decide!

I see the OP is in NRW. Things are are little bit different outside the Weisswurstgrenze.

I remember the bad old days when the leading lights of the CSU wanted all so called Ausländer re-applying for residence permit every 3 months, compulsory tested for HIV and those they could deport locked up in camps...a man called Mr Gauweiler IIRC...

Actually, the original poster is in the US, but for some reason has her location as Düsseldorf which confuses the situation even more.
