Oktoberfest campsites

Camping during the beer festival

Matth
Hi all, I'll be drivin from berlin to munich for the second weekend of the oktoberfest. That will be the first week of four months in Germany for me and being a beer-loving canadian, I can't wait to be there. I'm looking for a place to set my tent around munich. I can't really afford a hotel, and hostels seem to be full.

Can anyone help?
Ciao!

Hi.

There is a somewhat cramped campsite in Allach. We drive past it on the way to Pflanzen Kölle.

Katrina would you know its locational details?
eurovol
Yeah, that is the only one I have seen as well. It is I think:

Lochhausener Strasse 59, 81247 München,
(At the beginning of the Autobahn to Stuttgart)
phone: +49 89 8112235,
fax: +49 89 8144807,
Open from March 15th to 31th October

Also see: http://www.munich-info.de/travel/camping_en.html

The one at Thalkirchen seems to be a better bet!!!

München Thalkirchen Camping Ground
Municipal camp site,
Zentralländstrasse, 81379 München,
phone: +49 89 7231707,
fax: +49 89 7243177
opened between 15th March and 31th October.

Wies'n Camp

Oktoberfest accommodation for backpackers and low budget tourists.

This is the Oktoberfest campsite full of pissed-up Aussies. Yet it's safe and quiet because they have good security patrols.

Campsite at the Olympic Horse Stadium in Munich-Riem. It is 20 minutes travel time from the Oktoberfest. Take the S-Bahn S6 (metro train) from the Oktoberfest site (station 'Hackerbrücke') in the direction 'Erding' or 'Markt Schwaben' and exit the train at 'Riem'. Then follow signs for 'Wiesncamp'. Train journey 10 min, 5 mins walk at each end.

You can rent 1 tent (including up to 4 persons) per night for €45 from Sunday to Thursday or €55 on Friday and Saturday. They take a deposit of €50 per tent which you get back at departure if the tent is not damaged. The fee includes restrooms and hot showers. Breakfast, food, and drinks are extra and the car park is €8 per night.

Single travellers are supposedly forbidden from sharing a tent with other single travellers met at the site. But I guess they can't enforce that if you pretend to be old friends.

Damn, for that price why camp at all. There is a hotel around the corner that will give you breakfast (halbpension) for that price, that is if you can get up early enough after partying all night!
Hell, I have a spare bed I might rent out for that price and you can cook your own breakfast when you do decide to get up
Katrina
Jeremy,
I do know quite a few things but camping is a blind spot for me.
The only tents I've ever been in sell beer.
Mind you if Matthiew is remotely handsome (or not picky), why will he need a tent?

Eurovol,
Thanks a lot for the offer, thats really appreciated. The only thing is that I'll be going with a friend of mine (we'll be coworkers in Potsdam). So since I still have lots to learn about Germany that be real great to know some people there already.

As for Katrina and Jeremy, thanks for the tips. I hope I'll get to party with some of you guys! And by the way, any other places you recommend are worth seeing in Munich?

On one of my leisurely, low impact, bike rides I passed the
campsite Thalkirchen (U3 Thalkirchen, Bus 57) today.

All quiet before the storm, big "reserved" signs in English, camper vans lined up.

I was thinking about staying at Thalkirchen. Does anybody know if you need to make a reservation or if you can just drop in?

thanks

hi Rigergitate,
I'm heading over to munich for Ofest too. I checked Thalkirchen about a month ago for accommodation and they had nothing apart from space for a tent (if you bring your own!).
AFAIK its jsut a first come first served basis, but you may wanna ring and check.
Its a good buzz staying there, even it is a litttle out from the centre of Munich

Hi guys, I'm a 22yo Aussie girl coming to Munich for Oktoberfest.
As it's too late to book for accommodation in hostels on most days during Oktoberfest I'm happy to camp. "The Tent" looks great but for Oktoberfest I see that you can only book there if you book as a group. As I'm travelling solo at this point I'm a bit stuck as to what to do.
I'm wondering if anyone else is considering camping there or somewhere in Munich during Oktoberfest, and would be interested in getting a group together for booking there... Or if anyone has any advice or tips on this.
Cheers, Siobhan.

We'll be leaving Holland on sept 27 and will be in Munich through oct 3rd. Staying at the Thalkirchen campsite as usual. For we bring our own tents, there might be a spare place if you bring your own sleepingbag. Cant make it any cheaper for you lol.
Can't wait to get there.

Hi ALL! Aussie Crew coming over for your big PARTAY! Oktoberfest! There is about 10 of us. We all have tents except a couple. Should we purchase some? I have been told you can hire them already pitched for you?
We want to stay as close to the festival as possible. Cheapest possible way. Can you please let me know of some websites I can visit to check them out?
We will be arriving on the 18th!!! Cant wait so excited! YEEWWW!

hi all, i'm heading to munich from frankfurt next week, (fri-sun), totally winging the whole operation...but it'll be a great laugh...
all hostels seem to be full...can anyone recommend a decent campsite,or hostel with campsite, where you can bring all your own gear and not pay the rental prices...i don't expect the tent to be in a good condition after this weekend...cheers

Hey. We looked into staying at Thalkirchen last year but got really, really lazy and just slept in the car. It's cheap, close, and you don't need reservations, but the people that work there were disgusted with what was going on. I called them in advance and the girl recommended we not come because the bathrooms were destroyed, people were loud, obnoxious, and vomiting all over the place, etc. So it may be just what you're looking for.

We may end up there this weekend as well.
