Thanks for sharing this info. I'm going to order my ticket now.

Got my ticket. Although I am a bit unimpressed with the album. But then Jazz always makes so much more sense live than recorded, so I am still looking forward to this one.

Great concert last night with a brilliant atmosphere...everyone was up dancing...very unusual for a German crowd...

OMG I heard it was superawesome. From the beginning to end, folks were up dancing around. People from the back of the venue Row 60 or summat moved up to Row 10 rocking it! I also heard people were still strolling into the event after 8. At those tickets prices, what were they thinking!?!?!? Oh why did I have to work late last night .

Someone gave me a copy of "Absolute Benson" - George Benson's album with "The Ghetto" and "El Barrio" on it - a great album, brilliant soulful jazz funk. I don't have anything else and thought if the rest of his stuff is anything like this album, it will be worth checking out live.

Granted "gimme the night" was pretty good, the Miles Davis tune was great and Al Jarreau's scatting was impressive. Otherwise that was the biggest load of 70's / 80's pop crap that I have ever had to sit through. There is no need to play Paul Young's "Every time you go away" - and Benson's hip swirling nearly made my girlfriend sick.

Lesson learnt - always check the back catalogue before you buy tickets for random concerts.

George Benson will always be a bit hit and miss - his early jazz stuff is excellent then he went dreadfully "lounge/lift music" and followed up with some decent pop-soul marred by some dire balladry...and that's what we got last night. His "Absolute Benson" album was his best for a decade or so but then he followed up with a sort of RnB album that was just terrible. I thought he was surprisingly good - certainly got the crowd going in what was an excellent atmosphere (and my first gig in Munich). Great band too - the drummer was awesomely funky! I'd really gone for Al Jarreau who I thought was also pretty good - can't be many people who do singalong versions of Mas Que Nada. Now looking forward to Tower of Power on Monday - still, probably, the best live funk band in the world. Saw them live last year in London - not to be missed!
