I have Windows XP German edition. For some reason pop up windows are always blocked and it displays "Ein Pop-up Fenster wurde blockiert" for example when I try to access some video on the BBC. I get round it by continually clicking on the video and eventually it will be displayed.
Now, I do realise that the Popupblocker function is under "extras" but no matter what settings I choose it continues to block all popups even if I add the site I am on to a list that should not be blocked.
Although it is irritating, I can normally live with it but today I am trying to view some property on the web and all the information is under a pop up window and no matter what I try the damn popupblocker keeps blocking me.
Apart from throwing this pc out the window, any ideas how I can turn off the pop up blocker.
Thanks in advance

Is this a standalone home use PC, meaning not connected to a domain where GPO's might be messing with you?

Yup stand alone Toshiba laptop. I thought it might be the version of XP but I have loaded service pack updates and it has made no difference.

Which browser are you using? Did you try switching off the pop-up blocker totally? Sometimes the pages get created dynamically and just putting them into the allowed list does not help.

From above Microsoft site:
QUOTE
Note If you want to see pop-ups that are blocked when you have this setting turned on, hold down the CTRL key while the window opens.
Give this a whirl, if not, install Firefox / Opera as a backup browser

You got IE7?
Edit: If not...why not?

May be this is what you want:
How to configure the Pop-up Blocker by using registry key
To configure the full Pop-up Blocker
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_WEBOC_POPUPMANAGEMENT
3. Double-click Iexplore.exe
4. To turn off the full Pop-up Blocker, in the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK. Or to turn on the full Pop-up Blocker, in the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
To configure Pop-up Blocker per zone
Each number under either of the following registry subkeys represents the different zone:
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones
For 1809 under each zone, a data value of 3 means that Pop-up Blocker is disabled. A data value of 0 means Pop-up Blocker is enabled.

Thanks oozen. Holding down the control key worked with the setting on but I am still wondering why the feature continues to operate when I deactivated it. But I am happy enough to see the pop ups anyway.
Cheers mate
