When is a T-Com technician visit necessary?

Telekom refuses to explain why they want in

I recently cancelled my Telekom contract with the request that they inform me of the date of the end of the contract. They ignored me, and then suddenly, although my dial tone is still there, I could no longer call out or in and my internet connection was gone. Okay, fine, at least it went fast, so I ran down and signed up to get Alice Deluxe. They've sent me an SMS that hook-up is on Monday. Thing is, they say I need to be home all day to let in a Telekom technician. All my friends who have switched have not needed a technician in the house.

I am getting a new telephone number and switching to analog from ISDN. I tried calling Telekom, but they said they didn't have to talk to me as I'm now an Alice customer. When I protested that it is Telekom that wants in my apartment, and should explain why, he hung up on me. ohmy.gif

Can Alice not tell you?
Kat
No, the woman I spoke with at Alice wasn't a technician, and only knows that they need in, not why.
Keydeck
Tell her she's a idiot and to go and find out from someone with a brain who knows that they are talking about and call you back. You are getting their service and they should tell you what is required to make that happen. "He needs to get in" is simply not good enough.

Ensure that you start out by telling her she's a idiot.
Kat
You have a point. Unfortunately, the only ones likely to be able to answer the question are technical service, and those calls cost €5.00. I'm starting to go off Alice already and our relationship has barely begun. dry.gif

Option 1 - Pay the costs and ring technical service yourself
Option 2 - Just let the guy in to do whatever he seems to have to do
Option 3 - Tell the customer service bint to take her finger out of her over-sized arse and find out the required information or you will take your business elsewhere

out of the pan and into the fire, I think...

It's possible you are sharing a circuit with someone else. As the boom in new phone lines erupted in the 70's and as people added multiple lines for extra phones and faxes in the 80's there were not enough PAIRs of wires into a building to support all the required circuits, so Telekom developed a clever trick whereby 2 circuits shared 3 wires, where previously 4 would have been needed. This allowed them to increase density of circuits, especially in older multi-occupancy buildings. Prior to this they had used relay switches to alternate pairs, but this would never have worked with ISDN. Now you are moving to a new provider you must have your own exclusive circuit, so they will need to re-jig the wires and give a unique pair to Alice.

It might also be Telekoms way of extracting more money for the connection and loss of customer from Alice (which won't affect your charges)

If you have an appointment on Monday then there is a 50% or less chance they will be there, since Telekom service announced random and lightning strikes, especially affecting the service organisation from today.

Oh yeah.. and they're apparently on strike as of today...

Thousands join Deutsche Telekom strike

If it lasts very long, you might be having no telephone hookup on monday too!
YorkshireLad6
I think I said that 14 minutes before...

Oh yeah, and watch out with that appointment 'cos I think they might have a strike or something going on.

'Scuse me for not getting the hint at the other.

Same thing happend to me. It took a month until I've managed to have the conection from Alice.
I thought that the problems I was having with Alice Customer Service were because I didn't spoke german but it seems to be a regular thing with them.

Last weekend I had a small problem with the internet connection and when I've called to Alice speaking in english, the guy on the phone was so rude to tell me that "this is a german customer service!".
I've replied with "No, no, this is Alice customer service, I'm an Alice customer so you have to listen and answer to me! Don't give me that atitude, I'm not paying the most expensive package from Alice for things like that!" He was clearly obfuscated but had to do what I said. ph34r.gif

Tell me the number I can call British Telecom or AT&T where I can speak German to sort out my account, I find it easier.
