Munich vies to host the Love Parade

Leather Lovefest

It's being reported that Munich is competing with Essen to host this year's Love Parade (wiki). See article (in german).

Oberbürgermeister Christian Ude has personally made written notice of his desire to host the event. Further discussions are due to take place today with the arrival expected of a strapping lederhosen-wearing suited, bespectacled Love Parade representative in Munich.

According to Wikipedia, the 2007 Love Parade will be held on July 7, 2007 in the city of Essen as Berlin screwed up the application. So maybe this is an application to host the 2008 Love Parade. Maybe someone closer to the scene can clarify.

Note: the Love Parade is not to be confused with the Techno Demonstration Fuckparade, held annually in Berlin since 1997, in July or August.

Any suggestions for a suitable anthem title for the Munich 2007 Love Parade?

Can someone please PM me the text of this thread without the photo? I am having trouble focussing on the words.
Inflatablewoman
Would it be hosted on Leopoldstr?
pike
Not sure IW. News on this is pretty scarce.
MonksTown
Mmmmm, given the VERY big difficulties that us heemapoofs have to get a date for CSD (THE biggest regular event in Munich after the Wies'n)
I'm not sure a regular love parade in Munich would be easy.
Inflatablewoman
But it would surely bring in a lot more €€€€€'s than the CSD and therefore be more attractive to host?
Eleanor Rigby
I think it's a great idea.

Faschings Dienstag is a huge event that goes off more or less without a hitch.

No. It wouldn't.
It costs too much to organise and clean up after and there is not enough money to be made.

Strangely enough - probably not.
CSD is a large event, but the parade is relatively small, the Pumps Race etc. is contained to Marienplatz/Kaufingerstr./Stacchus and attracts even families.
The end time is defined, folk move off to bars, clubs or private events, the policing is a bit easier.
And due to classification and Munich council involvement, it goes ahead under those guidelines.
There's also quite a few tourists and the power of the Pink Pound cannot be underestimated.

On the other hand, the Love Parade is another kettle of fish, it would usually be in a much larger geographical area, is harder to police, attracts a younger audience (teens and early twens) with less disposable cash who will bring their drink from home in tetrapaks and there's also the errr higher potential use of currently illegal substances. Now I haven't seen the planned route, but I can't see it being the CSD area, but rather the Theresienwiese with security controls at the entrances, that might work?

Wouldn't actually be surprised if Ude is doing this to cock a snook at Beckstein.

oh right. a partys only worth having if it makes money and doesnt cause any hassle at all.

munich could do with a fuck off fest.

perhaps they could do it in true munich style in conjunction with FUCKUALL?

Pink Pound

Shouldn't that be Heemayo0yo0?
sarabyrd
The main reason that Berlin didn't want it any more was the massive amount of filth and waste these party-goers left behind. I would much rather invest my tax-€s in figurative baseball bats to figuratively beat some sense into them than in street cleaners' salaries.
Katrina
Yeah, I couldn't think of a better phrase than Pink Pound. Poof Pence? Tunte Tender? Queer Quids? Gay Groats? Non-Breeder Bread? Gay Pay?

I'm the LAST person to judge things by how much money they can make.

I think there are better things for Munich City Council to spend MY, YOUR, OUR money on than the Love Parade given the dubious long term benefits.

How can Wikipedia announce that the Loveparade will be in Essen when the offical loveparade website states that they are still in the middle of negotiations and won't know until the middle of may who the host will be (I might note that they moved this deadline back from the beginning of May when they were origionally expected to have this debarkel sorted). Anyone can make an entry into Wikipedia sound's like Essen are trying to make money spreading rumours, must say I do like their genius. After all if it is in an Encyclopedia it must be true.

Actually that was an early 80s German porn star.

I'm thinking Theresienwiese, would be to small for Love Parade. They'll prob. stick'em out near the Messe like they did for
the millions of people they came to see the pope.
Small Town Boy
This event will never work in Munich. Much too conservative. Although copied throughout the world, Berlin is the spiritual home of the Love Parade and so it's rather disappointing that the city authorities there aren't a little more accommodating.

didn't they used to have one in Munich too? I used to live in Maxvorstadt & remember some sort of rave-type parade but it faded out I think the last one was rubbish! (was it the 'Union Move' possibly?)

Clean up after a commercial event like the Love Parade or teachers salaries?

great suggestion! and if England played twice a year we may have a chance of actually winning a title!
MonksTown
Yes, teachers are on a federal pay scale.
Trouble is, Berlin doesn't have the money to pay them.
They've been to court in Karlsruhe loads of times over the last year to try and get a rescue package from the Federal Government.
don_riina
I've no idea what this is all about really, but it strikes me that I'd much prefer to see a parade of half naked ladies (holding each others boobies like in that photo) than I would see a parade of a load of blokes dressed up as birds. Wierdos.
parnell
Second and third Don's suggestion.
Moonboot
if Don's suggestion includes nudey oiled dudes then I'll 4th and 5th it.

In 2000 a Love Parade was held in Roundhay Park, Leeds, United Kingdom sponsored by BBC Radio 1. In 2001, the official UK parade had moved to Newcastle upon Tyne but was cancelled after the police refused a license: BBC Radio 1 still hosted a more contained event, however. Since then no Love Parade had occurred in the United Kingdom.

I have lived in both Leeds and Durham (Very near to Newcastle) and I am not surprised that anyone who was in Leeds sober didn't think 'fuck me if this is the trouble Leeds people can do I would hate to see it if the Geordies got it!'.

I just wished that I was a glazer, as every shop window in a 5 mile row was smashed and looted; it looked like pictures you see on the News! I think that there are far easier ways to make money and not affect innocent people in that way.

I just hope if Munich do get it there are not bus loads of Brits (especially from the north!) travelling down or Munich will be a Brokentown!

I am not against parties, festivals, etc. But the police in the UK simply can't cope with such an event, and everyone is off their tits and can't give a toss.

Probably more the Binge drinking/drug taking Brits than the event its self.

The naked women were good though
berny
yes but daddy, this is Munich.

we have (my opinion for the better) a police service that doesnt fuck around.

breaking the law? DONE.
looking like youre breaking the law? DONE.
thinking about breaking the law? DONE DONE DONE.

itd be great fun.

Yes, if the application is successful, and on 25th August - that's according to Die Welt.

damn! There is enough on Leopold anyway...why not have another street and end it in the wies'n grounds? dry.gif

The organizers spoke with Ude and the KVR:

QUOTE
Offene Ohren für die Organisatoren, aber keine Bewerbung: Das ist die Reaktion der Stadt München auf die Idee der Loveparade-Macher, von Berlin nach München umzuziehen.

As there are already plans for various large-scale events in 2007 there has been no decision up to now. The Loveparade GmbH has only applied for using open space (Flächenbedarf) and has not yet named a date; it is too early to speak of “Munich’s application. The mayoral candidate for the CSU, Josef Schmid, is all for Munich hosting the event because Munich is a “cosmopolitical and liberal city. However, he is against using tax-payers’ money on it.
The Loveparade GmbH had “offered to stage the parade in 60 European cities. The negotiations with Cologne failed, and Stuttgart retracted its offer.

<snigger> at Schmid.
Can we expect him to play the card of being cosmopolitan and liberal at the elctions next year or will the CSU the usual play the "we hate Ausländer and Poofs" line?

Made me laugh outloud, it did. He also thinks that the CSU is the party for the modern young woman.

having celebrated world cup games on leopoldstrasse last year, i don't think it would be ideal for millions of people. i really hope the love parade doesn't come to munich. if it does, i will make sure i am out of the city. ph34r.gif

Correct. Messe Riem perhaps where Pope Ratbag was last year?
To be honest it is really tight now for the timetabling of such an event.

@ Sarabyrd, if the CSU managed to run a campaign specificly to appeal to younger profesional women in the 25-35 range I could see them swinging it... sad.gif

that would be more of a 'in the nature' love parade with view on the mountains cool.gif
i prefer that location to the city.

Hehehe, CSUers swinging with yuppie women. The press would love that.
I mean, can you see Schmid boogie-ing along with the dance beat from the trucks rolling down Leopold? Even Ude couldn't pull that off.

Well I'll stand corrected the official loveparade website announced today that it looks like Essen will host the loveparade but they are moving the date to the 25th of August. (they are saying this it still to be offically confirmed though)

[your guys on the ground must be good eh]
