Ryanair or Lyin'air?

Quoted prices for flights to include taxes etc.

From today all of Ryanair's fares will be quoted inclusive of taxes

However when I went to book a flight this is what came up.

QUOTE
Here are the flights and fares available on the requested date(s). Fares do not include taxes, fees and charges

The prices were much more expensive than othertimes, hence I methinks it it a double tax.

So angry that I refuse still/again/ever (choose which you wish) to travel with them again. I mean a 6:05am return from Dublin means not sleeping the night before to get there at least one hour before takeoff, as long as who check in online and then travel to there too. If you include a Dublin taxi in there then it will soon be cheaper to fly via Dubai.

It's not just Ryanair; I found a flight to Leipzig for €4.49 there, €14.49 back. 'Great!' I thought, however they added ca. €70 taxes on top. I thought most airlines do that though, although LH seem to really include all taxes and fees in their special offers nowadays.
Deccie
but they publicly announce that from today prices booked online will include the taxes but their website differs.
UrbanAngel
Ah, that sucks then.
Small Town Boy
I'd maybe give them a day or two to let the website catch up. I'm no fan of Ryanair, but they're doing the right thing by moving to all-inclusive quotes and not levying fuel surcharges.
MonksTown
...cos the EU are forcing them to do so innit.
Hutcho
Good work by the EU.. this is one of my pet hates for sure.. if someone advertises a flight from A to B for 100 euros, it should be 100 euros, plain and simple..
Small Town Boy
The EU were talking about the possibility of maybe considering introducing a rule that would perhaps persuade the airlines to be transparent in their pricing, but they were a long way short of "forcing" anyone do anything, which is why most the other budget airlines continue to quote without tax.

doesn't bother me to be honest. I generally know roughly how much will come on top (not spot on, but roughly in the region of...). It's not like they charge the tax after you give your credit card details, if it's too much one day it's just a matter of going back 1 step and trying to find some flights that are cheaper (without tax) as they're also cheaper with, innit.
Small Town Boy
The problem is that some budget airlines don't only add on the tax, but also a pile of random charges that are part of their everyday operational costs, such as "fuel surcharges". I forget which one it was now, but one of the airlines flying Munich to Italy were adding €80 onto the advertised price of a return ticket, which is far more than the tax and duty on that route is. Even Lufthansa has the nerve to add a €10 "Ticket Service Charge" onto their quoted price, even though the stupid bastards don't actually issue you with a ticket. It's like a supermarket not only adding on sales tax at the till, but also a "shelf restocking fee" and a "floor cleaning surcharge" for each item that you buy.

Well they are definately dodgy, I just booked a one way flight from Stansted to Hahn, the flight was 0.01 and taxes £9.99, then
£ 5.00 1 bag, and £1.75 to pay by credit card! But had I booked a round trip from Hahn I would pay in Euros and the leg from England is €9.99 tax and €1.75 to pay by credit card. mad.gif

You only need the bag charge if you have that much luggage, otherwise you can choose to just have hand luggage (I always do this), then the credit card fee depends on who your credit card issuer is, for example, black taxis also charge a credit card fee.

I have to ask - how much was your overall fare? Bloody cheap I'd say. What do you want, to fly for free? If you don't pick up the charges, they could never offer you the occasional flight for 1p.
boomtown_rat
17 pounds for a flight including taxes, bag and CC charge - terrible ohmy.gif
Small Town Boy
A true disgrace. You could swim for less than half that.
MonksTown
I blame New Labour!
globalgirl
don't you just have to click 1 or 2 more buttons to find out what the absolute total price of your ticket is?

Probably takes less time than to phone up a travel agent and get them to do all the complicated button pushing for you, to give you a total figure so that you don't get stressed out that the original figure was quoted 'sans' tax.
But if people want to protest again Ryanair and pay the extra 100-some-odd euros cause they split the cost of the ticket into unexplainable categories, that's completely up to them
leky
I'm not complaining about the cost of the flight, but that it is the same amount in GBP as Euros as in 10 quid or 10 euros. I don't mind paying for the bag, we are going for 9 days and can't get away with just hand luggage, and I actually think a fiver a bag is pretty cheap.
