Beat me to that! I was planning on doing that this afternoon! Thanks smile.gif

Oops, sorry smile.gif Didn't mean to encroach on your turf, but it looks like a really cool event and I couldn't wait to post it! ph34r.gif Please feel free to post any more info on the event.

Karneval der Kulturen is one of the best events ever. A great family event that is enjoyed by all ages. Great music, great food, good drinks, just an honest good day/night out.

The parade is probably the highlight and if the weather is good then in my opinion is a "do not miss it" day out.
UrbanAngel
What kind of food is on offer? Würstl, Kasspätzle or whatever you Northeners eat, or more international?
Deccie
Food from all over the world.

No worries! It wasn't meant as a dig, more that you saved me the effort!!

As for the food on offer, well there is pretty much everything from pommes to pap. I, for one, can't wait even if it does mean that I have to walk most of the way home as the party blocks the roads and my bus doesn't run the full stretch! Hey ho... Oh, and the cocktails are fab too

The procession on the Sunday gathers in our street on their way to Hermannplatz so we get to hear/see the warm up from our balcony smile.gif

Hehe thanks for the clarification of 'pap', as it means something else where I'm from (i.e. shite) smile.gif

Hence the reason I did it... wink.gif

KdK is a blast; I did it a couple of years ago when I was staying in Potsdam for the summer. Unfortunately, I don't get back from Pisa until 16:10 Sunday, but I could meet up with folks that evening, or go out Monday.
jtw
I'm actually coming back from Pisa a day earlier, so I will be around for the parade on Sunday. Anybody want to make an outing of it?
Deccie
Yeah! where and when meet up on Sunday. should be a good day out.
phoenix-rose
Ditto. Where/When?
GoodGrief
Sounds like fun!
moni
Why not meet outside the Amerika-Gedenk library, U-Bahn Hallesches Tor? easy enough not to miss, and it should be convenient to go to the parade from there, if I read the map right...
jtw
What time?
moni
I'd suggest around 2.30? if it's not too early on a Sunday...

(unless anyone wants to actually follow the parade from the start, but it does go on all day)

So the AG library / Hallesches Tor is ok? it is the nearest stop to the Straßenfest, then later we can move south to catch the parade as it goes by.

I've never been to this event before so if someone has a better idea, speak up, but do it before tomorrow afternoon!
jtw
Works for me. See you there/then. (If there's a better location, we can migrate.)
moni
Ok then! so 2.30 outside the entrance of the AGB library, I'd say we could wait there maybe ten-fifteen minutes for everyone else to show up and then check out the area around Blücherplatz.
Majisa
Hey would love to join you. Hope I recognize/ find you at 2:30 :-)

My picture is in my profile, and I'll be wearing a white hat with a Brazilian flag and a black drawstring.

I'm interested too, if I don't have to do an unexpected translation over the weekend blink.gif
jtw
How about 1pm Sunday at U Hallesches Tor?
Feli
Sorry itw, I saw your message too late. But I did go the carnival with a friend and it was wonderful! Hope you went too.
