Hi Everybody! I'll be moving to Berlin in about and weeks and am delighted to have found this forum! I am looking forward to meeting people! It makes the move seem a little less daunting... hahahah!

That's all!

Well the next meetup will be next week on Wednesday in Kreuzberg. I just need to think of a venue. You're more than welcome to join!

Hey to all in TT,

I'm an asian-american female here for 6 months from NYC.

Don't know too many people here in Berlin just yet. So if anyone is interested in hangin out or exploring the city together, I do enjoy getting lost around here, always leads to some interesting finds..

My interests: food, music - mostly hip-hop, indie rock, but listen to almost everything except for country and metal, museums sometimes, other random activities, food - i do like to eat and try new things... - no i'm not that fat... yet.

Looking for: a decent asian supermarket, dim sum - does that exist in berlin?, something to do beside work all the time..., someone who can laugh at the things I have to do around here to get by without knowing any German - yes I will start my lessons in a week.. ok, maybe two..

Hello,

My name is James, 27 from Central California. I decided that instead of getting hitched and settling down like all my friends that I would travel the world for a few years. First stop, Berlin, for about 6 months or so!!

I've been in town about 10 days and was staying in a hostel until I could find an apartment. I'm now somewhat settled in Prenzlauer Berg and am looking to meet some cool people to hang out with. I don't know a soul in this city and it would be great to kick it with some people who have been here for a while as well as hearing an English voice for a change. I've had quite a culture shock that is just now starting to wear off.

I know this town has great nightlife (I did a pub crawl a few times with some hostel folk) but I want to meet people other than backpackers.

Hope to hear from you soon.

James

You two should definitely come to this Thursday's TT pub night (wherever it might happen). Last week was a lot of fun - I highly recommend it! cool.gif

Hi all... i'm also new to the forum, but I've been in Germany, and Berlin for a bit...

The Dim Sum question... the only place I've gone worth eating it is the Chinese restaurant right next to the Chinese Embassy.. Jannowitzbruecke U/S Bahn or Heinreich-Heine Str. UBahn
Nothing compares to chinatown in ny though... you'll miss it after a while... i still do...

Hey JG,

I have seen that restaurant from the S-Bahn is it really good? I have a craving for good Chinese and have always meant to try it out? What are the prices and the service like? Authentic Chinese? maaybe even a Rest. review on the place would be nice.
JGrasso
hey deccie... so i think it's authentic chinese. by berlin standards it's expensive, 10-20 euros for ea. dish, 2-5 euros for the dim sum. also depending on how rare or how much of a delicacy, some dishes can get really expensive... i noticed that with the soups that have some seafood in it that i've never heard of..
i'm a vegetarian, and for me there are only a few things that are on the menu for me, but for the chinese food expert, there are easily 15 - 20 pages, no joke, from thing like the classics, pork dumplings, to eel dishes, and other things i've never seen. my impression, and i could be wrong, is it's a rally wide variety of traditional chinese dishes to suit the different families/ambassadors that visit the embassy/city. there is such a variety in chinese food, i guess it a little bit of everything.
they also offer a buffet on saturday, but i've never tried it. and i think also on sat nights they have a live chinese band, i could be wrong.
i was absolutely thrilled when i found it as i miss chinese food desperately and have found chinese and indian food here in berlin nothing compared to that in nyc or london.
hope that was helpful!! i say it's worth trying, just to see if it eases your craving!
Deccie
Ok I will try it out. Probably on the weekend of Sylvester.

Thanks for the info.
JGrasso
anytime.. glad i could help

Hi there,

I am a Malaysian Chinese living in Friedrichshain too. Is anybody going for Dim Sum this weekend?

Michele

hey everyone.

haven't been online in a little while, sorry i missed all the conversations.. but...

so i've been to Ming Dynastie, and found it extremely not good. if you are seriously craving over-salted, oily chinese food look-alike, then go ahead. maybe i went on a bad day for the chef? but i thought it was pretty bad.

as for dim sum this wknd, sure thing. i found a couple places that look decent around charlottenburg if anyone is interested...
JGrasso
hey... then do you have any recommendations for chinese food here? i agree...ming dynsatie isn't the best, but it's better than every other one i've tried here.. i just had veggies, and they were better than most i've had elsewhere. other people i know seem to like it, but hey, if you've got better suggestions, please share!!!

Hey guys, welcome to the forum! Quick tip for you, if you wanna organise some kind of get-together - i.e. to go for Dim Sum on a Saturday or whatever - then you should post up a new topic in the events and meetups section. With a new topic you'll generate more interest, plus the event will then also be listed in the events calendar. I'd advise posting things like this more like five days in advance though, to give everyone enough notice. But you never know, there might still be people around who are up for more lastminute thing this Saturday. Doesn't harm to try anyway, even if response is low the first time around.

Hi! I'm new here, I'm a Dutch girl who's been living in Berlin for nearly three months now.
Thursday night drinks sound like fun, I would love to join you guys after the holidayseason, for which I'll be going back to Amsterdam.
Kat78
