Careful,
pots of evil is a registrated trademark...

I think apres chili testing is when
pots of evil will happen, anything up to 8 hours apres probably.

I would bet 10:1 that it rains at least once on Saturday, it has done for the last 30-odd years.

Hmmm that's a pretty good bet, though I wouldn't want to stay up ALL day from 00:00:01hrs till 24:00:00hrs just to find out

I made cookies last night. It was an unmitigated disaster. Taste can only be described as what I would imagine sweet hardened vomit would be like, with chocolate chips in. Back to the drawing board.

Spoke to one of the main waitresses this week and she had no idea about this event. No posters up anywhere either.

@ Bluedave, that's because YOU never volunteered. If you had everything would be perfect wouldn't it.

Ok, I can confirm the band now. They are called
madbomberinlove and you can check them out on either or both of the following two websites:
www.madbomberinlove.comwww.myspace.com/madbomberinloveIt's going to be a great cookoff!
Great, seen them twice in concert last year, they're amazing and Dave has a really cool voice, and a quite impressive one for the smoker he is!
Have their CD but am very much looking forward to seeing them live again. That and to eating chili. And drinking beer. Gonna be a good day.
If cookie bakers are allowed to try all the chili first with the chili comptetitors then I'd rustle up a batch just for that.

Jul 13 2007, 2:37 pm
I was thinking the same. Fair trade and all, they get a cookie, we get a spoon of chili.
we'd just need confirmation from the Veranstalter, cause the mere glory of winning isn't enough inspiration for me.

This is an outdoor venue, right? The website makes it look all indoorsy...
There's a big outdoor part, but lots of space indoors too. Quite good. Bring sunscreen.
bern
Jul 13 2007, 3:03 pm
Sunscreen? Bah! My name is Bern!! Hear me roar (or sizzle as the case may be). I'll wear a hat.
Whatever, as long as you don't "bern" your cookies too. Who all is baking anyway? If there's only one competitor then it's an easy win. Chili competitors have numbered 30 in past years. Ok last year was rainy so I think there were only 20.

Jul 13 2007, 3:15 pm

Me, me! I'm baking!
Panama
Jul 13 2007, 3:17 pm
Me will try to bake as well. Let's see if I don't "bern" the cookies. Are brownies also considered as a valid entry?
As there aren't any cookie rules on the site I'd say the cookie bakers themselves would have to make them up. I'd say, yes, brownies count.
ARE YOU WITH ME!!
Panama
Jul 13 2007, 3:21 pm
I would say AYE! So brownies will be baked as well. If they don't count we can at least eat them

Jul 13 2007, 5:35 pm
@Panama: you're not making a chili?
Panama
Jul 13 2007, 5:48 pm
No, I'm not going for chili, I don't really know how a proper chili should taste like. Haven't ever eaten a chili like in the south US or north Mexico, so I will pass on it this time. Will look at what people like to have on their chilis and then will try next year with something that goes according to the expectations. Chili is a bit of a complex matter some times, beans or no beans, red kidney or refried, corn? some say no way, others will put it there. So better watch and learn. Then I can try to kick ass.

Errmm, you do get a taste or two, don´t you?

I will be home with my sick son tomorrow. No chili or cookies from me.
the best way to guarantee that you get to taste all the chilis is to cook one yourself. Cooks get first go und nach denen, die Sintflut.

Since you mentioned me, I have the perfect plan. I have 2 Chilies.
I need 2 amatuer Chili experts. One that speaks the the truth always. And the other that lies always.
After they taste my Chilies, I would ask "which version of my Chili would the other choose" and submit the opposite.
Clever eh?
Seeya tomorrow.

From the Veranstalter, there will definitely be a cross over of tasting between Chili's and Cookies (and associated members of the Sweet Baked products) I think there will be more people gagging for the cookies as a little Nachspeise...Everyone welcome...It'll be a great day by the looks of it.

My daughter made some cookies to bring along. They look a little... rough-- but it was a good first attempt. Not too shabby for a 3 year old anyway. Is there a cutoff for the cookies thing? We're never going to make it over there by 2.

3rd here as well. Thank you to the organizers for giving me the best birthday party since 2000 (not 1997, that one was wretched), and thanks too to everyone who enjoyed my Bread & Butter Cookies. It was great seeing the regulars and the family people, the venue is remarkable and the food delicious.
Great work, chili cookers and cookie bakers. Remember those recipes, they may become important later.

Thanks to everyone who organized this. What a fun afternoon out. It was great to see so many people there. The chili and cookies were all fabulous. It was fun to get honorable mention for the "most creative cookies".
