@Simon - Cisse will not be back. Yes he was quick, but he is nt the top quality we are looking for.

Eto though? I think that would de different but might take him a year or to settle into the premiership.
Eric the Hamster
Personally i am not too upset with the result, we played well. We defied everyone who said Milan would take us apart. Just shows we have room for improvement !
Eric the Hamster
as Rafa said "you need to take your chances"

I think Liverpool were a bit ripped off.
On another day that first goal might have been called hand ball and why did the game end at 2:40 into the 3 minutes of added on time?

Yeah, I thought so, too. The Premiere commentator confidently stated that it wasn't handball and that seemed to be enough to justify not showing any replays of it. Watching it on the HDD recorder (unfortunately without frame-by-frame) it reinforces the impression that it was the upper arm. Still, you win some, you lose some. But you do see those given as handball.

Well for me I think Liverpool lost to a good team and thats that. I would be proud to hold up my head if I was the lads. Everyone thought AC was going to shred them and it was a tougher match for AC than they expected.
Eric the Hamster
It hit his hand but was just one of those things, it was never an intentional hand ball!

We were robbed but not mugged.

2:42 seconds extra time though what was that about!

Like 18 seconds were going to make a difference. They didn't do it in the other 5,562 seconds at their disposal. Rafa running all over the pitch screaming and pointing at his watch was a little over the top.
Eric the Hamster
You have NO idea about football!
Crawlie
Rules are rules. I don't think it would have been any different the other way round and would have been even worse if it had happened to Sir Mourinho, Sir Wenger or Sir Ferguson
bluedave
Personally think the foul that they scored from wasn't a foul but ho hum.

Went to GM's earlier and could barely breathe so buggered off to the Arc and managed to snark a stool just near the big telly. smile.gif

Oh yeah, definitely ball to hand (arm), but you do see them given handball, especially in the box.

I heard there were fights at the public viewing in Athens after the match. Sad that a sports event ends like that.

Oh gosh, you got me there. Actually, I just couldn't stand the idea of the hub-cap stealers winning another game on penalties without having been in the lead in the game.
Eric the Hamster
I sense a bitterness in you

So half of the population of Merseyside goes to Athens without tickets and there are fights. Time for bed, I think.

No. Quite the opposite tonight.

Oh man got to down a few pints in the middle of the afternoon what fun.

@ Crawlie I do not recommend the ol Lampoc Stout, an absolute shite of a beer with no sense of alcohol in it.
Eric the Hamster
@Batson Creek, i assume from your comments you are are a Chelsea fan.

I see from your profile you are a Brit from Ricky, as a Liverpool fan i would prefer that another British club be it Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea win the title -rather than any foreign team. But i guess your team are young in this competition and the fans are not used to the environment.

I guess money does not bring experience
JOB
fantastic! In a rather drunken perspective, I couldn't be happier that Liverpool got beaten. They didn't deserver it as a team 2 years ago and their managers ineptitude caused them to lose it this year. They shouldn't have been there, and they deserved to lose.

I'll add to this when I'm sober tomorrow.

I agree. never mind, we played better footy, despite not winning. have put me Pool flag away for a few months now. sad.gif

@JOB: Yes, you are talking drunken shit. Liverpool deserved to be in the final and they were pretty unlucky to lose like that. That first half free kick from Milan was the only offense they generated in the entire first half and the goal was complete bullshit. Lucky...

i was bored for most of the 90minutes. ph34r.gif

Spot on!! A Chelski fan from Ricky. I don't have a problem with the Scallies winning, it would just be nice if they won it from a leading position, not from penalties having never been in the lead.
They didn't have the heart for it last night, as they certainly did two years ago, and did not deserve to win.

That'll be the considered opinion then. I must remember to talk about the oposition "generating offense" when I am next in the Matthew Harding stand. That'll impress my co-supporters.
Crawlie
This "Liverpool did not deserve to be in the final" discussion is pointless as the teams we beat have all of the excuses already lined up (funny, Barcelona did not offer quite as many as the english clubs)

1) We beat the big teams to get there - "Oh, well you played shite football and stifled any attempts the opposition made to make them thrilling games. Call that football? That ain't football"

2) We made a better game of it against Milan than Man U did - "Well, what do you expect? Man U and Chelsea played sooooo many more games as they were going for multiple trophies and Liverpool were just so crap and only had the Champions League to play for. They played almost no games at all in 2007 but we played shit loads and we were tired and shit..."

If you look at the Champions League then one could say that England has 3 of the top 4 teams in Europe, so finishing 3rd in the Premiership, whilst not winning it, is not that much of a failure is it? I guess it is and, again, pointless discussions
Jules Winnfield
Liverpool's run-up to the final was more impressive than Milan's, played against much tougher teams.

Oh man got to down a few pints in the middle of the afternoon what fun.

And lots more were downed in Athens, it seems. Athens counts the cans:

QUOTE
Cleanup crews in Athens collected 98 tonnes of beer cans left behind by Liverpool and AC Milan fans during their stay in the city for Wednesday's Champions League final, a city official said yesterday.

``From Tuesday onwards, we collected seven truckloads of beer cans,'' the official said following AC Milan's 2-1 win.

``Each load is 14 tonnes ... and because beer has a certain effect on bodily functions, we had to wash many areas with shampoo afterwards,'' he added.
