The culture festival, organised by the German trade union, DGB, is taking place again this year, starting at 17.30 on April 30th, with the bands Hot Loaded, Skaos, & Afrob playing on the open-air stage at Marienplatz.

It continues on May 1st at Marienplatz and the Viktualienmarkt:

Marienplatz:
12.00 Ania Jools
13.30 Wally Warning (you might know his "no monkey" song from last year's Oktoberfest)

Viktualienmarkt:
12.00-17.00 International music (Locos por la Rumba, Gauchos Monacos, der Autobahnkapelle & Paddy Whack) and dancing (from Ecuador, India, Chile and, of course, Bavaria).

Once again there'll be walking acts, a Punch & Judy show, and games for children. Entrance is free.

in case anyones wondering why the city of munich is organising yet another free cultural event for its citizens, the 1.May is Tag der Arbeit (Labour Day).

It was established as a national holiday in 1933 by the Nazi party as a symbolic holiday representing the newfound unity between State and the People/Workers. Ironically, on the 2.May, they outlawed all Trade Unions. The holiday remains.

Do remember to appreciate the hard graft that went into building that stage. Ironically my Tag der Arbeit will be celebrated by building it down.

I <3 Munich.

Munich <3 me.
