Bauhaus stores Sunday opening - 29.Apr.2007

Why did they only choose this particular Sunday?

Any idea why?

The link only shows 29.Apr.2007. What is so special about this sunday? I know the rules have changed, and stores can be open on Sunday now. But why today of all days, and not like, a string of Sundays in Spring [so people can get their spring planting/windowboxes done up]?

Also Ikea was open (Berlin, as well).

Bet you it was super-quiet in there.

Damn

In my experience, when they open the shops on Sundays they are packed beyond belief.

oh. it's good I didn't go then. I like it when there are people to ask questions and it's generally quiet. Hmmm.
It would have been funny to see so many germans out on a sunday, shopping! egads.

a lot of bigger chains in berlin are always open on the last sunday of the month, i think bauhaus is doing that now as well. for example, schoenhauserallee arkaden have been open the last sunday of the month at least for 3 years now.

Cities or communal areas can declare designated Sundays as "Verkaufsoffener Sonntags" where businesses in that area are exceptionally able to open and sell their wares. These days are often organised around other activities such as open markets or special events in the locality. Different German States set different rules but in general the maximum is 4 Sundays per year but never on a public holiday. Note that many stores (mainly furniture stores and car showrooms) do open every Sunday, but only for viewing. They can neither sell nor provide any customer support or interaction. Berlin is more flexible than most cities - from the beginning of this year Berlin permits the 4 advent Sundays (only 13:00-20:00), 4 other Sundays set during the year (usually around large exhibitions or other city events), and additionally 2 Sundays in local areas during special occasions such as local street festivals

Same procedure as every day, then. ph34r.gif

Err, no they're not. I live close by and I'm sure I would have noticed. (While the Arcaden are very enthusiastic Sunday openers, it would be impossible for them to open on Sundays with that kind of regularity).

For reference, the next generally permissible Sunday openings in Berlin are:

* May 20th
* September 2nd
* October 7th
