Largest ever gathering of Smart cars

As a sideshow attraction to the 43rd Frühlingsfest at the Theresienwiese, Smartfriends.de will attempt to set a Guinness World Record on Sunday, 6 May and are calling all Smart owners to join in for their 15 minutes of fame. The organizers aren’t saying how many participants they expect, just that they missed out last time by a few measly cars.

The owners (and their cars) are to meet up at 9am at the Esperantoplatz entrance where they will receive a certificate commemorating the event; every 43rd driver will receive a €10 voucher for the Frühlingsfest. The official judging will take place at 2pm.

So if you dig cute little cars shaped like the dried up, bone-hard bubble gum you used to get from those nickel vending machines, stop by the Fest, have a beer and watch the fun.

Not quite, but I do expect Emily to come running into the garden dragging a Smart (limp but still alive) one of these days.

We were involved in the same attempt last year but it obviously didn't make the guinness book of records.

Why do you people all have a problem with the SMART? They are fuel efficient, low emmision city vehicles and I am yet to have a problem finding a park. In this day and age it's certainly a step-up from some of the obscene fuel guzzling monsters I see driving around the city.

I think Smarts are cute, would even consider getting one.

I have a problem with the smart because I originally thought they had some potential so I hired one to see what it's like. It is utterly the worst car I have ever driven. The gear changes are appallingly abysmal and the stability control was a pain in the arse.

So then we tried a Brabham one thinking it would have fixed all of these problems but it was still hideously awful.

i don't mind the Smart car. i drove one for 15months. it's also amazing how much you can actually fit in there. Not only can you surprisingly get lots of luggage, but we managed to get 4 people and a 45lb dog.
