Second-hand clothing stores

Where to buy and sell used clothes

I have recently cleaned out my wardrobe as I don't have the room I once had in my walk-in closets in the States. I would like to find a place to sell my used clothing, similar to Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads back at home. I searched around on here and only found one thread for Munich (generally the case.) Anyone have any ideas?

I think that if you read the article, it is about Hamburg.

A problem that I have with secondhand places in Hamburg is that they sell their items at a higher price than the same or similar items are brand new. I'd suggest ebay, but that's me.

If you would like to do some charity, there are Red Cross Kiloshops in Hamburg: DRK eröffnet Kilo-Shop in Altona. Not sure if you get 12 Euro for each kg of clothes donated or to buy! In any case, better than dumping them, or having a place to dump them!

or sell them on TT classifieds if they are nice.

@ ADDY - What size are you? We've got about 12 to 15 suits and jackets for sale in Hamburg. Best quality, but they don't fit me sad.gif . All are around size 52. Photos available. Viewing in Hamburg-West possible. We live opposite Airbus on the other side of the river, near Blankenese.

@ marymanu - Clothes sell well on Ebay, if presented well with well lit photos. You could also try Kijiji - the link is at the bottom of ebay.de - which is free. If that's no good, maybe you know somebody who is doing a boot/trunk sale and can go along. It would not pay to do it alone.

There are a number of second-hand shops, which may sell on a commision basis, but I'm afraid I don't have many details - one company has a shop in Altona and another shop opposite Hamburger Dom/Feldstrasse U-Bahn and another in Hamburg-City - The Altona shop is on the 1st floor over SEB Bank in the Neue Grosse Bergstrasse (I believe). There is a small shop near Elbe Einkaufszentrum, which must be almost opposite the Gross Flottbek Market - name unknown.

hey guys, thanks for all the great, quick replys, I appreciate it smile.gif

just to add a note about my size. i am a small guy which usually take small or extra small, and being as most guys in Germany that I have seen are ginormous, it makes it hard for me to find jackets that fit and be affordable for me. So, if anyone knows a place for my situation that would be great. Thanks smile.gif

The last time we were in Italy we noticed that mens sizes were smaller. Maybe there are some clothes shops with an Italian connection in Hamburg, or even a few online possibilities. Maybe just an irrelevant thought smile.gif

oh... and Oxfam opened a shop in October 2003 - we were invited to the opening get-together. Have heard nothing since. Just near Wandsbek-Markt U-Bahn and Einkaufszentrum: http://www.oxfam.de

There is a great used clothing store near S Holstenstrasse called Kleidermarkt. They have racks and racks of men's clothing, especially jackets - tons of leather jackets, etc. I don't know about suits, but it's worth a try. If you have the time, go before 4pm on Mondays and Wednesday, as everything is 25% off.

I've noticed that suits don't sell very well early in the week on ebay.de and go for under 40 Euros, especially if the auction finishes during the day and not in the evening. I got a suit that costed 899 Euros for 35 Euros. Maybe you'll find size 48 there, if that's your approximate size. If it does not fit, sell it again by putting it back in for 10 days on a Thursday at 7pm, so it finishes on Sunday 7pm to 8pm, 10 days later, which is the best time in the week to get a good price - not Xmas, or times in the year when most people are on holiday. Italian suits turn up quite often, or go to ebay.it
