Hey Guys

Is anyone up for a road trip to Munich for Oktober Fest?

I know it is a bit early to be chatting about this, but I took a sneak peak on the Munich Events and meetups chat board and found out that people are already struggling to find room in tents.

After much hunting about, I booked my self a spot with the Fanatics group for the first weekend 21st Sept to 24th Sept, 140 pounds (or 125 pounds) depending on accommodation chosen) price includes 3 nights accommodation at the Fanatics campsite, breakfast, travel between campsite and fest, day tours to Munich - oh yeah and don't forget the sexy t-shirt. The campsite is 14 mins outside of Munich accessable by tram 24hrs. Campsite also has onsite pub, cafe, etc.

Fanatics are an aussie thing but honestly who cares (no will make you eat vegemite). Check out the website for more info:

If there was a few of us going I thought we could venture together. I haven't sorted travel from Berlin to Munich yet, was thinking of trying

Mitfahrgelegenheit or train or plane or something. Open to any ideas not horse n cart or camel or donkey though - but possibly a rickshaw.

Should be a lot of fun so if anyone is interested drop me a line.

keep cool

Its not too early to be planning a trip. In fact, if you haven't got a hotel booked already you're probably too late. Your camping idea should be fine though. Be aware that it can be pretty nasty though, especially if its cold and rainy which can happen. My friend was there last year and said it was pretty crazy down there. Lots of Aussies from London really, really drunk all the time.

As for struggling to find room in tents, you don't have to worry about that until the day you hit the fest. Almost no one makes table reservations.

If I'm not mistaken, some Frankfurt TTers are organising a trip down for the Wies'n. Do a search, you might find some useful information on their thread.

If I'm in Germany, then I'll be "auf die Wies'n" at some point, that's a lock.

I'm sorted for a place to crash with friends down there, but keep this thread going to try to get the Berliners together for a night or two in the tents.

We can probably learn a few things from the Munich TTers about strategies to snag a decent table - which i think boils down to dragging your butt outta bed before 9am... ouch.

Get there early is all I can say. by the way you missed a great event last year we had a table with close on twenty newfoundlanders at it. was a laugh to say the least.

I´d never heard of the fanatics (maybe because I grew up with three rugby mad brothers and a father who were fanatical enough), however after looking at their website, I´m sure you´ll have a great time. Good luck for your year in Berlin too!

I'm in. My little bro is coming over from Seattle for Oktoberfest this year. I just found out about this last night. Basically, we need a decent place to crash after the fun at the festivities.

Last year, I had friends from Oregon visiting and we basically just boarded the train and headed down to Munich. We got a great table in the Augustiner tent but we also went down there at 10 am smile.gif However, our hotel was 280 Euros per night which was ridiculous.

If you're coming from Berlin, you'll stop in Weiden (unless you're going to do the ICE thing - then you'll go through Nuremberg). We could meet up and head down from there.

PM me with details - we're game

After looking at the pics (which looks fun) am I too old at 33 for that group? I'm told I look like I'm 23. And I ski better than almost all Italians and can drink more than most Germans and Australians, sooooo... wink.gif I think the Irish still have me beat. After surfing and drinking there...that's a country! biggrin.gif

I think I can be talked into this (either this or The Bird's similar trip), but I'm distracted because I'm travelling at the moment. When is the practical deadline to decide?

The Bird's similar trip

Note to confused Canadians: I'm not talking about an actual bird or a statue of a bird, but a restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg. wink.gif

Ah, now I see. Because I figure the birds would start flying south at that point in the fall as well.

I think as long as there is still accommodation available you can drag your decision out as long as you like.
