The Registratur claimed they were being forced to close as their licence (Konnzession) was expiring and the building was to be redeveloped.
The
KVR say yes, they were on a fixed term licence due to the redevelopment of the building but as long as that is not actually about to hapen they can
get a new licence. Indeed, the KVR wrote to the Registratur to inform them that their old licence was expiring and to get a new one if they wanted.
While this was being picked over by the local party-goers press some interesting stuff came to light.
Only the main hall of the club is actually licensed for occupancy and that rooms capacity is the capacity of the club = 200 guests.
The separate room the Sekretrariat is not supposed to be used for clubbing but I've been in there, neither are the guests meant to hang out in the wide corridoors which are rent-free though everyone uses them for chatting and chilling.
If ther were more than 200 guests then stricter rules about emergency exits etc would apply which would cost a fortune to install and not be worth it.
So the allegation is that the Munich City Council is letting this go on (and the KVR is usually not so relaxed about ze rules) as other wise the club would have to close and that would be bad news for the owner who wouldn't get any rent and the owner is: Munich City Council.
Whether last night's police raid was due to this issue being forced and the numbers on the premises rather than
what those guests might have been up to, is open to conjecture.
