There's one on the 6th (or maybe 7th) floor of the Elisenhof building near Hauptbahnhof. Haven't been myself but apparently pretty good.

I worked with a guy named Mark Baumann. Only went to him because my Orthopedist referred me there and he was located in the same building as my Orthopedist.

Located in Schwabing at Kurfstenplatz. He worked on me the last three months as I rehabed from 3 completely torn ligaments/tendons. They thought I'd have surgery around December, but I managed to heal/strengthen up well enough that I avoided it so I was definitely happy with his (and my doctor's) work. smile.gif

He also used to work with the men's olympic team here. I think he did a lot with the Judo team. Real nice guy. It's a smaller practice though and not what I was used to when doing physio at a larger practice back in the US.

BTW, I think he's on holiday until the end of the month. I think the number is 308 21 99.

More tea, Vicar?
Does anyone have any kind (updated) recommendations to add to the above??

I'm looking for a sports physio who can do "deep" (AKA painful!) inner tissue massage.

The kind that hurts nicely for a day afterwards.

Yes...I broke my ankle in early spring and have been going for 20 weeks to a place called REHA-Sport-Schwabing (that is their website...I have double-checked it on my invoice and in the phonebook...dunno why there is a 403 error...suspect it is not working at the moment). Anyway, they are located at Leopoldstr. 25 (right at Giselastr. U-Bahn) and have great opening hours.

I would highly recommend them, and if you want to hurt the next day...ask for Frau Zehnel smile.gif
More tea, Vicar?
Cheers Blimeygirl

I presume that they cover sports/deep physio as well as recuperative physio.
Blimeygirl
Yes as far as I know. They are quite big with several floors...and they claim to specialize in the sports rehab.
Massage, lymph drainage, electrotherapy etc. are also available.

I just had my firs visit with Dr Öttl this morning. He will be replacing my cruciate ligament. I didn't know he does physio too, but I have heard lots of recommendations about him. He speaks good english, he works on/for some football tea including TSV 1860 etc... My first impression is that I recommend him too. He defo knows what he's doing...

Unless he advises otherwise, I will be going to the REHA place mentioned above for my post-op physio

So, for the god-only-knows how many-eth time in the last few years my lower back has suddenly started giving me excruciating pain again. I've been to a few doctors about it, one just gave me some anti-inflammatories, the next took an X-ray, said my spine/discs looked fine and told me to bugger off, and the last gave me some crappy injection and suggested acupuncture. In short, none of them could tell me what was wrong nor could/wanted to do anything about it.

Therefore I am looking for recommendations for Physios, Sportärzte, etc, that are at least half-way competent and will get to the bottom of what is wrong. I do a lot of sport so I imagine it will be sport related, but I don't have to be doing sport at the time for it to happen. Like I say, it doesn't appear to be spine/disc related. Might 'just' be a trapped nerve, but I'm fed up with it as it hapens every few months and puts me completely out of action for weeks on end.

Cheers for any info!

Try this guy out. Dr Schmid over near Silberhornstrasse. I went to him a few times (for my leg stress fracture and my shoulder ligament problems) and he's pretty good. I think he's actually sponsored by NIKE...or he treats athletes sponsored by NIKE...whatever...he's damn good.

@BegTets, I used to have major back problems, and had the same experience as you here, but I went to Dr. Wagner on Muhlbauerstr (by Prinzregentepl), and he is a sport doctor, never gave me meds, he did a chiropractic type adjustement, and it helped. Then he asked me if I needed to go to Physio, I didn't go, as I felt better after everything was inline. Since then, I have started an aggressive workout program, that really builds up the back and shoulder muscles plus aquaerobics, and have had no back problems.
I am a strong supporter of Chiropractic, but finding one in Munich is not easy, as they are not registered or specially licensed. dry.gif

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon.

Cheers guys. I actually went to this little eastern european guy's Praxis at Luise-Kiesselbach (sic) Platz. Knew exactly what the probelm was just by looking at my posture. Powerful little bastard and a real brutal old-school osteopath type - hurt like fuck when he was twisting and pulling me around but its just what I wanted and I feel loads better already (i.e. I can now stand up for more than 30 seconds at a time). All these alternative types can stick their healing crystals and acupuncture pins up their arse.

Would thoroughly recommend this guy. Doesn't speak english as far as I can tell, but then if you're living here you should be making the effort to learn german anyway.

Well there is a link which I provided above . . . . . you obviously enjoy use of the internet.
UrbanAngel
There *is* a telephone number above, plus a website as MTV said, plus on the 3rd one they gave you the name and the address. What more could you want?
jml
I can recommend Ruth Mehler, she's a krankengymnastin...08929163753. She operates on her own and is located near the Orlando Passage behind Maximillian Strasse. Near to the SF Coffee Company.

She's German, happily speaks adequate English. In terms of her approach ... she's very gentle, I didn't think it was helping at first, but a few visits later really made a difference. She's also traditional, i.e. uses hot towels and excercises instead of red light and other techno therapies etc. If deep pressure and gadgets are your thing I'd go elsewhere.

Oh and she's cute in a old college friend of my moms sort of way, if your into that sort of thing. wink.gif
Jelda
sorry guys,
I was asking telephone numbers for a reply from tench.

Between Mr. Schmid, Demic, and therasport, I can't make up my mind.

I sprained my ankle 10 weeks ago tearing the anterior ligament. After 6 weeks of wearing an aircast and the healing process taking so long, I asked the doctor today to send me to a "krankengymnastik".

However, I can't seem to decide on which one.

I want one that will just make me feel better, and where I actually feel that the therapist is sincerely concerned about my foot as I am.

Any tips/suggestions!?
Showem
Lismarys, no one is going to be as concerned about your foot as you are. But I have found the therapists at http://www.reha-nymphenburg.de/ to be friendly and competent, with less of an assembly line mentality.
Breeze
Lismarys Ive PM you.
I discovered that my services are needed here.
Im a fully qualified Therapist in Massage, and offer other holistic treatments, so get intouch and tell me about your aches and pains. Im setting up a Mobile Business with excellent rates biggrin.gif

the healing process taking so long

I broke my ankle in March and am still having problems...it takes a looooong time I'm afraid, especially when there is ligament & tendon damage. 10 weeks is not actually long at all.

For therapy, I went to Reha-Sport-Schwabing at Giselastr. and found it an immense help. I had a combination of Krankengymnastik and massage along with lymph drainage (great for swelling!!) and electrotherapy. I found they were very helpful and took the time to explain things, really took the time to help me walk properly (it's kind of like learning to walk all over again after an injury).

The one in Nymphenburg is also great as my husband goes there for therapy following his knee surgery.
jml
Showem is spot on. Reha is a good place for rehab but its not a spa and candles kind of place. The emphasis there is definitely on rehab rather than relaxation. @Breeze are you a certified krankengymnast in Germany as well? I think it makes a difference for insurance purposes? huh.gif
Breeze
I offer the Holistic therapy, another approach but on similar lines of Rehab.
It is all about pain relief, circulation, and strengthen the muscle tone.I do offer a service where it can be candles, and relaxation, which is excellent for the soul, but want to say that both types of services, both get results.
Sorry if it sounded that I was making more of my treatments, did not want to offend anyone. smile.gif

Thanks everyone for your messages!

Since jml, showem, and blimeygirl all recommended rehab, i tried getting an appointment with them, but they wouldn't be able to give me one until late november. I would have taken it but my injury is already 10 weeks old and by that time, it would be 14 weeks - almost 4 months.

So I decided to call the therasport place someone else recommended on this site, and they were able to make appointments for the dates that I was available.

It's very curious how I went to three different doctors after injury in August, and not one recommended that I go to physical therapy. In fact, the only reason why I got the prescription was because I asked for it.

Thanks again! I'll let everyone know how my therapy goes (first appointment on November 7th).

So here's waking up an old thread!
Well, after 3 weeks AHB in Medical Park Bad Wiessee, I'm doing pretty great following my ACL surgery on 16th March 2006. The knee has over 110° in it and I'm without crutches, pain and brace. Many thanks to all at the clinic for great work done.
But the work doesn't stop and so I'm now at the physio praxis belonging to my Nymphenburgerstr. doctors (éttl, Kinateder et al, as used by Tom17).
The care so far is great (went last night for the first session, will be 2x week) and I'm looking to supplement that work with extra training.
Two things that I enjoyed a lot in Bad Wiessee where the machine-led pilates training and Gyrotronic.
So this is an appeal to the dancers etc. out there, have you used any of these places listed: Gyrotonic in Munich?
It'd be as an add-on to my Nymphenburgerstr. place and the machine looks like this:

Loods mad, does wonders, it is a lot of fun to train with it, like swimming without water, you work hard on strength and flexibility and I grin non-stop on it - I'd buy one but they are mental cash.
PilatesBody is probably where I'll go for the Pilates bit, as one of the Bad Wiessee trainers works there too. Can anyone report back on there? Apparently there are only two Pilates places in Munich with the machines and this is one of them (I need a Reformer really, mat work allows me too much space to go wrong).
Thanks!
Bron
Re. PilatesBody, I did a trial class there after doing Pilates elsewhere for two years. The instructor knew what she was talking about (and didn't keep stopping to chat) and I thought the class was good. We did a combination of mat work and reformers. Definately recommended.

Thanks Bron, I'm going to the introductory class tomorrow morning - wish me luck! The head woman there, Michaela, wrote this book on the topic so I'm optimistic. Will let folk know how I get on.
As for Gyrotonic, I've had a recommendation for Cityphysio in the Sendlingerstr. - has anyone else been there?
