Hi there!
I've been living just outside of Schwäbisch Hall for about 2 years now. I'm 43, orginally from Toronto, Canada and now living here with my German husband. I'm not much for the bar scene, but I've become a regular at a nearby pub and the folks were pretty friendly from the start. With our two dogs, hubby and I recently joined a local Hundevereine (dog club) where I've met a whole bunch of more nice folks. Although it isn't a big city, there's plenty of culture if you enjoy plays and live music. There's a nice theatre for live performances, and there are all sorts of events taking place throughout the summer. Too bad you weren't here last year when the place was celebrating its 850th anniversary. But this year there are also celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the large 54 steps leading up to St. Michael Church downtown. So in terms of history, art and culture it is surprisingly good. Lots of info at the official city web site if you're interested:
http://www.schwaebischhall.de. Also check out the regional web site:
http://www.landkreis-schwaebisch-hall.de/I would strongly suggest a visit to the visitor's info centre, located right downtown next to those big steps in front of the church. They have info in English about the city and all sorts of maps.
If you're a fan of football (NOT soccer!) there's an American football club here called the Unicorns, complete with regular season and a stadium. Web site:
http://www.unicorns.de Every summer there's a gathering of folks interested in North American Indians ... err... Natives... err... First Nations? (arrgghhh). Anyway, they put up teepees and do dances and arts and crafts and it makes for a fun outing. Vellberg has a great Weinbrunnenfest complete with fireworks in July. Heck... I can't list 'em all. For info about all the various events in the area, in English, check out this web site:
http://www.hs-tourismus.de/cms/front_conte...id=&idcat=2If you like Blues music, I highly recommend the Gaildorf Bluesfest, running July 6 & 7. English web site:

Cheers!
Vera
